Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX

I don't get the hubbub about the onboard audio. Do any of you really hear the sound quality difference, or is it just about the chip number snobbery?

I got myself the B550 Gaming Plus with ALC892/ALC897 because my old Z87 Gryphon had the same audio and I never thought to myself: "damn, that audio quality is trash, I should really get a mobo with a better chip next time".
Some chips/implementations really are crap. You get hiss and crackling, especially if you use the front audio on the case. So no, not just snobbery.
Also, some features are disabled, so if you want to use surround sound etc. it matters.
I don't think the ALC897 was one of the really terrible, but some other ones were quite bad.

the m version of this motherboard i got from microcenter is the one that had coil whine that made my ears bleed and give up on next gen.

and it wasn't just me, many other reviews across the internet said it had coil whine issues. must just be the m version.

I can with FLAC 24/196 audio files. But for gaming and normal video watching, no.

If I listen really good, there is a bit less clarity. Still you kinda need to an A/B comparison or you just won't know. Human brain is good at filling in the gaps.

I use Asrock x670e pro rs and I have no issues with ddr5 6400
Never said it was impossible. If you have a really good IMC, I can see single rank working with 1.3 SoC / 1.3V MemIO. I'm checking if y-cruncher passes too along with memtest5 (etc). Just because it boots to windows and does most things, does not mean it is truly stable.

m version? You mean the Master? Unfortunate to hear that if so...

Ahh see! this is what i'm talking about in the review. I was just looking at pictures and its wired for x8 too. But I guess MSI is only allowing x4.

Well actually... :D
If you see the pic from one of your old test, Gigabyte X570S AERO G
I have this board and it can give you simple 16× or 8/8 or 8/4/4 lanes
I made a quick comparison pic so it will be obvious:

I made a little digging and you already found a good options: the ASRock X670E Taichi and the board you've tested: ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara
Too bad it's got premium price...

Edit.: I take it back it has PCIe gen5, and USB gen4 so it is reasonable but still would be painful to pay for this.
