Good courses on fundamental networking (IP, Frames, OSI layer, subnetmask etc) - please help.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a solid in-depth networking curses explaing networking such as (LAN networks, Routing, IPv4, IPv6, Frames, Subnet mask, OSI layer etc.) with
a lot of practical expamples (practical typical real life situations to give you an idea of "when is this used?" "why used used?" "what's the point?" )

I do like when courses give a lot of examples such as
*how would this look in a typical Home LAN setting? how are data packages sent? What is contained in the Frames that are sent?

Explain things in a context that makes sense with enough detail to use it in real life /practical situations.
* "When data is sent from your computer to another let's take a look at what happens inside the eithernet cable, and let's understand why a Gateway is needed
to go beyond LAN etc.
* Use windows / OS to show how it looks in real life
* have good animations

My goal is to understand networking and the internet in general (how it works and why) and basic online internet security, and maybe take a Comptia Certificate or
some other computer certificate.

I did find some courses, that I'm considering:

A Free course i found

Free Microsoft course on netorking (looks like it lacks much visual and is quite slow pase)

Free CCNI

We don't know where you are, but I would sure recommend checking out "courses" offered by your local community college. Many of these will be on-line, classroom, or a combination of both. No, they are not free, but the certification you get is worth much more than the piece of paper it is printed on when it comes to résumé/CV material. Plus, being able to interact with the instructor(s) and fellow students can be invaluable - not just for the learning opportunities and experience, but for the "personal network" of peers, colleagues and contacts you build in your field of study, and job market.

Ely seems to explain things in plain terms, its certainly not a course but it helps you...

All the staff in my group are either Cisco CCIE's or CCNA's.

Cisco CCNA courses are a good starting point, especially for WAN/LAN etc.

Do web searches using - internetworking.

or see examples it's easier for me to learn, but I try to youtube those examples at this point

That's is so kind of you Which course book are they?

"Working" at the moment but they would have been from my intro/advanced networking courses from 5 to 7 years ago. I gave a bunch of them to thrift store a few months ago but not sure which ones.

Introductory networking hasn't changed that much since then so they should still be useful.
