I filmed a short VR film for 2D monitor view, demonstrating some research I am currently working on. Problem is I need to edit out some parts. Are recommended video editor for newbies? Does not have to be fancy.

I've used the built-in Windows movie maker before and it sufficed for simple projects. If you need to compress heavily VLC media player does a good job of it.

Vegas was my main program, but its pricey, & has a learning curve, + its more of a serious program

If you're on windows 10 , essentials didn't come with the newer operating system ,but you can still get movie maker in the windows store ,or if you have access to Windows 7 PC even better. The classic movie maker (last I knew) did still work with windows 10 perfectly fine, they just stopped including it for some reason

I use Virtuadub for editing out what I need to and Handbrake for transcoding.

I believe you can plug in whatever encoders you want with VirtualDub, so re-encoding with Handbrake shouldn't be necessary for a project like this. I remember VirtualDub losing all streams but the video stream I was working on though, so I had to re-mux audio and other tracks back in with something like mkvtoolnix later. There may or may not be a way around that with VD, I didn't mess with it for too long...

Ended up using MS movie studio for the quick editing and handbrake for transcoding. Pretty neat. Thanks everyone!

I use Handbrake because you have a lot of control over the quality/filesize.

OK here is another question. Any known good VR video editors? Preferably something that allows both monitor editing and VR HMD editing.

I am going 0 to 100 really fast I know. But while learning it might as well pick as much as I can.
