Take this as a RUMOR. The last drivers that amd polaris gpus/vega gpus will be supported will be 23.8.1 ( and 23.8.2 if it's the case , but it will be not the case this month ). Now it is possible to be a driver bug that is not allowing the driver to be installed on the vega/polaris. But i heard that they want to focus on NAVI products.

Images are not mine. The images are from another amd forum.

Take this as a SPOILER too.

While it's definitely still a rumor, I would not be too surprised if this is true considering they desperately need to prop up RDNA3 sales. Especially since they're about to start filling out the midrange RDNA3 options, it would make business sense to kill off driver support for older architectures to get people to upgrade to the new kit.

OEMs are still releasing new laptops based on Cezanne/Vega. How is AMD going to end support for those while they are still in box on retail shelves?

I am posting from my 5700G system which I haven't used in a few weeks. It needed windows and drive updates so here is a screenshot.

Homie needs to troubleshoot his drivers. DDU in safe mode try again.

What i have is an early release for 23.9.1. I'm a Tester at AMD. And i saw this on my discord too

It wouldnt be the first time a hardware vendor has products on the shelves which is software EOL, although this is usually with consumer router's.

Maybe AMD will restrict this to discrete vega GPU's.

Good luck, AMD. I'm not getting rid of my Vega, anytime soon.

They already tried to force obsolete HD 7970 and back.
3rd party drivers keep support going.

Mabe yes..maybe no...we will see...as i was saying...and i repeat...take this as a rumor...cuz this may be a bug in the driver too

I have two Vega nano & i'm not going to changed either even if there is exclusive ray-trace games only.. Driver support is coming to an end. I think it's around the last third quarter of this year, around end of September.

And it's not like the cards will be bricked or anything. Using old drivers is fine.

Shady link is shady :wtf:
AMD is actually known to use wetransfer to distribute beta software before release, so it kind of adds up as shady as it looks.

It wouldn't be too hard for them to continue supporting iGPUs for a while, but I suppose it would be rather minimal, like bug fixing and such, and the drivers would search for mobile Vega device IDs to proceed. I can't imagine AMD is dumping a ton of resources into Polaris and Vega drivers anymore anyway. I'm sure the community could mod whatever driver AMD does release, but will it actually make a difference in terms of performance or bug fixes if AMD isn't putting the effort into it anymore? I can't imagine Vega iGPUs are going to handle newer games very well.

Lol. Is this their private AMD Dev discord channel? If so the mole who leaked it could be in quite some trouble.

I’m offended, my 7970 is DX12 capable….. why are they ending support for Polaris it’s slightly retarded cousin!

Vega will probably get 3 more bug fix releases, for a 6 year old architecture it’s to be expected. My last real complaint was AMD removing the easy access to video settings. They did however shore up the video acceleration crashes. At the expense of higher clocks.

imo new users shouldn't be allowed to share links on this forum until they reach a certain amount of yellow stars under there name. maybe two yellow stars. to sort of work around spam accounts.

UPDATE :

Try this Driver on POLARIS/VEGA ONLY GPUS and let me know if it works.

I almost started to post "I ain't clicking that sh*t..." memes.

Makes sense.
Oh, great. This is actually looking like it's legit.

Many people in the community seem obsessed with (and defensive of) artificial obsolescence as to "not slow down technology".

you can tell your friends about polaris/vega losing support. thank you and more news will be coming :)

Can't you edit the inf file & make it work, unless AMD explicitly removed every IGP/dGPU before RDNA or RDNA2 perhaps?

Just checked the display driver inf of 23.9.1 (23.20). It still contains vega and polaris but it is missing the latest AMD card! RX 7900 GRE is listed as a RX 7900 XT instead ;)
Looks like a bad driver package to me since driver package 23.10.23.3 which was released for Ratchet & Clank recently does contain the RX 7900 GRE.

Regardless of whether this is real or not, AMD stopping driver support of architectures which are still in production is nothing new. A couple of years ago they stopped supporting the 200/300 series (e.g. 290X, which is GCN 2) while continuing support for the 400 series (despite there being plenty of GCN 2 GPUs in that lineup, that continue to be supported to this day).

Why do they do this? It could be to drive sales of newer cards, or maybe there's some extra work in maintaining those older cards in spite of the arch being the same. Who knows, either way recently released products will continue to be supported for a while.

They released a couple of drivers for only rx7000 series, could this be something like that?
