GPU 20 FPS used to get 250.

Afternoon,

I am looking for help. I have a ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401V with a 2060 super max q. When I play any game, the FPS is atrocious now. I have rolled back drivers, downloaded the chipset, disabled the iGPU, and also changed the power settings on the computer itself to reflect a better temp. Any help would be appreciated.

does HWInfo normally track/display the iGPU even if it is disabled? I never seen my iGPU that is disabled, but that could be due to I customized what is being displayed in HWInfo. So, I'm not sure if you actually have that disabled and if games are using that rather than the dGPU then makes sense for poor performance.

In my Drivers It shows as disabled.

Run a benchmark like Unigine Superposition that taxes the GPU.

If that runs fine, then it's likely some shitty anti-cheat software or a Windows update screwup - at least then you'll know it's a software problem and can either try to disinfect your OS or do a clean install. The fact your GPU is pulling 27W at 100% load means I'm expecting a bad firmware update through automatic updates.

I don't like how it's saying the GPU is being limited because of power/thermals... Hope it's not a bad sensor somewhere.

So it's screwed even if's it's just running a synthetic test? I'd be updating the BIOS to the latest version from Asus next, just in case Windows has failed to apply the correct firware or something.

As for avoiding the wipe - If you have a spare SSD you can swap out your current OS drive and test a clean Windows install on the spare drive. If you don't have a spare drive but have an external drive and plenty of spare time, you can take a backup of your OS drive with Clonezilla or similar, wipe and test, then restore your backup if that didn't solve the problem.

Generally if you get idle-ish power draw at 100% load on a Nvidia GPU, it has deceased or at least it can't go into 3D mode proper anymore. It will max out the lowest power state/clock to be able to show you an image and that'll be that. Its basically going into safe mode.

It could be a sensor, but the chances are substantial that it has deceased.

What's not right is the power draw. Ignore the Windows 10 thing, Windows 11 didn't exist when Superposition was released so that's expected.

@Vayra may be right here - My own experience of Nvidia cards dying is that they fail to run any 3D at all and often crash as soon as Windows loads the Nvidia driver, they won't even start a 3D benchmark, let alone getting all the way through to the end of one.

My experience is mostly desktop though. Laptop GPUs have more low power states than desktop GPUs, so perhaps it's managing a 3D safe mode that desktops don't need and don't get. I've bought a few hundred Nvidia-powered laptops over the years and the only ones I've really seen with any pattern of faults were way back in the 8000-series something like 15 years ago so my experience of GPU failures on modern Nvidia laptops is pretty limited.

When your GPU at full load pulls 25W, and get's "perf limit : power + thermal" message - it's a failed/faulty current monitoring circuit.
Also, your GPUs VRAM doesn't switch to it's full 3D clock (which may be a failsafe mode of some sort ?).
Regardless, your GPU has failed in some way, try to use Vega.

These are very bad results for your video card... I think you need to reset all settings to default, update the bios, install Windows in a new way and install all the necessary drivers. Here's what normal results look like in "1080p extreme" mode.
