I put together a new build, and bought a second hand GPU that was an upgrade model than the one in my old system. It's a Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT. The motherboard is an Asus Rog Strix B500 XE and the OS is Windows 11 Pro. The BIOS is the very newest, 3607. The CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5600G ( has integrated graphics).

This GPU isn't functioning. As the system is being booted, the GPU fans spin, but as soon as the system posts, the fans completely stop. When entering the BIOS, the fans will remain on for as long as I'm in the BIOS.

The RX 5700 XT is identified in Device Manager and says it's working properly. It's also identified in GPU-Z but when in Task Manager or AMD's Adrenaline software, it's not identified and only the integrated graphics are being used. I tried switching priority in the BIOS from the integrated graphics to PCIe graphics but that doesn't help. After going back into the BIOS, the BIOS changes the order back to allowing the integrated graphics to be primary.

I thought maybe there was a power issue as the original PSU I used was the one from my old system. It was older and 600 watts. I bought a new 750 watt PSU but that also didn't help. I also tried installing the GPU in another PCIe slot. That didn't help. I've tried different drivers. That didn't help.

Considering I tried this GPU in two different PCIe slots on a new motherboard, I'm thinking either the GPU is hosed, there's some kind of driver issue, or possibly something weird within Windows 11 that I'm just not aware of.

For what it's worth, the second hand eBay GPU looked like it was new when I received it. No signs at all of someone trying to polish a turd. I mean not even slight scratches where the GPU screw to the rear case panel.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would interested in hearing them and it would be appreciated.

Just an initial thought here about something that you mentioned that stood out to me. When you said you switched priority in BIOS to the 5700XT from the integrated graphics, did you also change the connecting cable (either HDMI or Display Port) from the integrated connection to the connecting port on the GPU?

Hopefully you didn't get a burned out overclocked gpu on ebay. I recently got mine and anything "open box" and "for parts" was very close to the "used" asking price.

I tried that one time at the very beginning of troubleshooting, and the monitor gave a "no signal" error on the screen.

@Capjo do what rtwjunkie mentioned.

If it still doesn't work...

Boot up off of the igp, open gpu-z and switch to the 5700xt in the program and get a screenshot of it please, also please get a picture of the part number/sku sticker located on the back of the card or side of heatsink near pcie contact blade.

Post it all here

Yeah, that was my first thought too.

Ok I have a major update. PROBLEM SOLVED! rtwjunkie mentioned about switching the HDMI cable to the GPU instead of the IGP. I knew I did that, but I got to thinking had I done that before or after making the priority change in the BIOS? So I went back cleaned out the old driver, reinstalled the newest driver, made the priority changes in the BIOS again, and switch the HDMI from the IGP to the GPU. It's working 100%. Task Manager IDs the GPU, AMD Adrenaline IDs the GPU, and a ran a quick online BaseMark test while monitoring the stats through AMD Adrenaline and everything is working as it should.

Just want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to help clear things up for me, it's very appreciated!

Whew, glad you got a legit card that was taken care of and not some mining abused part

Excellent news! Some times it’s something very simple. I’ve forgotten to hook up power cables to the gpu before and then wondered why it wouldn’t power up. It happens to everyone. I’m glad to see you got yourself a nice working card!

Yep, I thought about that as this unit looked so new. I thought maybe it could have been used for mining. I learned a lesson that I will NEVER buy a used GPU or even one advertised as new on eBay. Instead I will go directly to a legit online seller like NewEgg.

Many Thanks rtwjunkie!

I guess I got lucky becuase my RX 5700 was from ebay. However, I am using it as an external gpu in my second M.2 slot in my hp laptop.

I didn't mean I think this 5700 XT was used for mining, I meant when I was having problems, I thought it could have been used for mining and it got smoked. Instead, I think I got a good deal on this unit but with all of the questions I had running through my head at the time, I said to myself, it would have been whole lot easier if I just bought new from an online retailer like NewEgg. I would have been assured (for the most part) it was new, and if I had problems, they have a simple 30 day return policy. A lot of headaches for me gone.

^The only reason I would avoid eBay.

I was doing an Egpu build on an extreme budget I have to get the cheapest parts, It was my first attempt at anything hardware related since 2017. I was scared until very recently I made a mistake.

Anything old enough should be fine I have gotten a lot of junk on eBay lately and I worry about people who will lie about a products quality.

This is as much a problem anywhere else. Amazon, Etsy, Newegg and that list keeps going. Some sellers are just dishonest or outright thieves. Reputation counts for a lot. Read the feedback from Ebay buyers and you'll quickly get a feel for what the real deal is with a seller.

Ebay has Consumer protection, safer than facebook or craigslist.

No sense in beating a dead horse. The OP's problem was resolved by moving the monitor cable to the card.

Why bother replying then. Never mentioned fake marketplaces like craigslist and Facebook.

eBay customer protection is only a word The fact is if you get swindled it doesn't matter if you got swindled at the mall Walmart online whatever website you get swindled

I guess I am not welcome on these forms

If after five posts I still need a moderator to review my posts delete my account obviously you are paranoid.

You took over an hour to approve my post and then you posted right afterwards hide behind your keyboard have a good life.

Your comments in this thread had little to do with the topic and did not help the OP at all.
