before, i used R9 290 IceqX2, unfortunately, 2 days ago my 290 dead :(
my 290 problem is after 1 minute running, there s no signal in my hdmi connector

so im thinking to get a new gpu and i want a 980Ti, probably Zotac Amp!

the question is, is it really worth it to get 980 Ti now?
or should i wait the not yet released and no detail artic island or pascal?

thx for answering :peace:

i think so.. you have to get something.. :)

trog

I would, the waiting for new tech game never ends and early adopters tend to pay a premium when the cards first come out.

This! 980 Ti is a decent price atm and will still hold it's own when new cards come out, waiting for new tech is a case of the old saying "tomorrow never comes"

980Ti willl be a solid and more future proof purchase or upgrade.

while your can also consider Fury Nitro upcoming

980ti is buying into a high price point with the highest performance for single card.

That segment of the market never gets you the best performance/dollar ratio though. It's expensive performance in the purest sense of the word. With a big release and die shrink upcoming, it all depends on your budget I would say, but I do know I'm not investing big into a GPU today if there is a huge leap to be made in the near future. The chances that your spanking new GPU will drop in value dramatically, is extremely present and this is not always the case (780, 290x keeps its value quite well, in comparison). Today is the worst day to be spending >500 bucks on GPU, regardless of brand. You can safely say you are going to toss about half the price of that card out the window within a year's time at best.

If I were you, grab a 2nd hand card on the cheap, maybe another 290 at a good price?

I would also say get a used GPU and wait for Pascal or Arctic Islands. Not just for the leap in performance with Pascal if you want Nvidia but also Nvidia is going to bring back compute performance with Pascal so it may be better with DX12 games if and when they do become mainstream with developers.

For 1080p? Nope not worth it. Get a second hand 970 and wait.

This

and what about dvi or dp. do they also dont have signal?
have you triyed ot roll back drivers to pre crsimson version?

I concur with Ferrum Master, for 1080P a 970 or perhaps 390 would be more than enough, why spend money on horsepower that possibly won't realistically be used.

I'll be the third on that thought

Are you sure its dead, try the other connectors and see what happens or try flipping the bios switch. Just a thought before replacing the card...

As far as the purchase, your only on 1080p so I would concur that buying a 980ti might be a bit of a waste. Try something like a 970, 980, 390, 390X, or Fury as those are cheaper options and will give you similar performance for 1080p 60hz.

Didn't even think to look at his monitor completely concur with those dating 980ti is too much on 1080p, if you can upgrade your monitor at the same time then go for it otherwise yea a 970 will cut it on 1080p for a couple of years to come

1. for 1080p a 980ti will be more than necessary and also little expensive, I prefer to get a single 980 or 970 for that resolution, I don’t like AMD cards for several personal reasons that won't come to this topic,

2. you actual card is giving you a hard time, HDMI is not working, that’s all we got, what about card temps and usage? are you putting an eye to that part?

3. have you ever tested the card with DVI-D or VGA ports? or just with the HDMi? because that’s not a proper way to be sure about how is it doing ….

Regards,

Regards,

I guess software buggs are top of the line drawbacks for AMD

I would say for a single monitor 1080p a GTX 970 is plenty, maybe a 980 if you want a little extra kick and not have to worry about the 3.5G 4G VRAM issue.

I specify "single monitor" because originally I was only using 1 monitor and now I am using 3 1080p screens @ 5760x1080. The GTX 970 was perfect for 1 monitor, and works very well with the 3 monitors @ 5760x1080, however the GTX 970 is just short of horsepower to drive all 3 monitors at a solid 55-60FPS on High detail. (Specifically in GTA V)

Ideally I would like a 980TI for 5760x1080

IMO GTX 970 or 980 for single screen 1080p is plenty.

14/16nm GPU are supposed to be 2x better in performance than the current generations and will appear in 2016. I think paying a graphic card $500+ right now is not a wise idea.
Try to get a cheap 290X (if you can find one with a price cut) or a 970 at good price, I think that would be enough to play smooth until 2017 at 1080p 60hz (or 75hz with a screen OC) with solid FPS.

this ... is legit...
