GPU Compatibility

Hi,
I'm just getting into the hardware side of computers and am looking to upgrade my graphics card, so have a few questions about identifying what is compatible and what isn't. How does one know which graphics card will be compatible with their motherboard for instance? I know to check for power and space requirements though. As I understand it the bios is an issue as well, though I have yet to come across specifics. Could someone shed some light on this? Any help very much appreciated, apologies in advance for being such a noob.

If you have a motherboard with PCI express lane(s) basically any new graphics card will do if they fit in your case and if you have a good PSU.

Edit: To get the most performance out of your new graphics card make sure you have a good CPU as well to get the best framerates.

Seeing your system specs, you are better of starting a new build.

That bad? LOL! I don't want a top end gaming PC, I would just like to be able to play Street Fighter IV comfortably. That's pretty much what I want the upgrade to handle, I'm fine with everything else.

can you please post some picks of your relic?

if you want some decent budget gaming you should go for a a10 and overclock it on a a88x mobo. it will be good at 1080p on most steam games and you can add a mid range gpu later if you decide you want to play some aaa games.
you could go with like a pentium g and a gtx 750(ti) for what you want but if you want more out of it later its best to just get a i5 to start out instead of paying more in the long run.
all depends on your budget and i gotta tell ya mortal combat x might end up being a favorite if you like street fighters

I'm cautious about buying a card just yet because I already know that Sapphire cards don't support older Dells. Something to do with VESA mode 103. So, being unable to tell when these issues cause compatibility problems I came here for some clarification.

You're right to be cautious - it's a fair bet that your current motherboard BIOS will not support recent generations of cards. It's quite a common problem for the newer generations, especially because of UEFI style bios's. System is very old and very tired - not sure if it's worth buying a new card or better getting a better base build with an average card.

Its all you can do with the system you have.

Your case, mb, and psu are all built for that small form factor.

Get the card listed its real small. should play your game just fine. Did this with a buddy of mine, he played wow for 2 yrs with that set up before he was able to save up for a better system.

Even the Gt740 needs a 400w PSU the 1in your specs = 280w. Best to save for new rig..

Thanks for the responses gentlemen, I'll be assessing my options. Wasn't planning on buying a new PC as I'm not overly into games, but maybe the time has come to bite the bullet.

I'd recommend building a new rig with the help of tpu members. You will notice a huge difference even when doing simple tasks like browsing the web, doing office work and of course playing games.

I would just like to be able to play Street Fighter IV comfortably.

Any PCI-E card should work. Something like a 750 TI should be great for SF IV. I'm just not very sure how well an old s775 dual core would hold up.

If it's just Street Fighter IV, some oldie 740GT should be aplenty even at 1080p.

It came with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU/VGA ( Virtual Reality Ready)

I'm pretty sure this GPU will work on my intel motherboard (Gigabyte Z-490 Vision D)
I guess the GPU's are interchangeable between intel and Ryzen?
This would help a lot to know, pack on the knowledge bit by bit (no pun intended )

Also, it might not be worth hooking it up to this later generation equipment I have now, My M/B, PSU, RAM, CPR and M-2 for PCIe4x slot are all working well. I'd just like to see what happens if I put the GPU in this set up. Will it disable the integrated graphics from the motherboard, as I am using now. I just want to experiment a bit so I can learn, but I just need to ask anyone willing to help me out.

Wow they really paired a 1070 with an fx (6/3c) processor but going off the new specs in your list you can drop that 1070 straight in to that board with that CPU, board and PSU no problems and it will perform a hell of a lot better than with that god awful fx CPU

Yes, I have not heard great things about the processor in that Cybertron. I bought it in 2016. Once I got it though, I started to want to build my own with all the nice RGB parts I saw on their site. I spent like $1500.00 on nothing but faith that I could put it together. Luckily, I watched and watched every how to video I could and put together a new computer with no problems. Only thing I don't have at the moment is a GPU.
Eventually I will get one that is more up to date for this build. I'm having a good time messing about, so I'll mix and match and try to learn some more. I'm going to do Ryzen next.

Use a GTX 750 or 950, I'd say - so you can also use AA and AF, or a Radeon HD 7770.

Sorry. I somehow missed the OP date. My answer is still accurate though; I have a neighbour with very similar PC configuration (Lenovo/IBM box of some sort the one with inclined front panel) and he just might come looking here for recommendations.
