Hi, how's everybody doing on this fine covid quarantine day? So i've been having a problem with my pos computer since i built the damn thing in january. The basis of the problem is that after a random amount of time my gpu will crash with any load over 40% or so. When i crashes it always closes whatever game/program I had focused the time. Additionally, it sometimes crashes both of my displays in addition to the program mentioned earlier. I have noticed a bit of a pattern however. Watching my card monitor in task manager I've noticed every time the card crashes the usage spikes to 100% for a very short time.
I've had this problem since january and i've done a few things to no avail. Firstly I had hoped for an easy fix so I upgraded my gpu from a -Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti- to an -Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070- (frankly i just used it as an excuse to upgrade my gpu haha). After no difference and me being lazy i again stupidly upgraded my cpu from a -AMD Ryzen 5 3600- to a -AMD Ryzen 7 3700X-. Again nothing had changed. At this point i consulted the r/techsupport reddit and the only reply suggested my card didn't have enough watts behind it. So again I bought a brand new power supply. I went from a -Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold- to a -EVGA GD (2019) 700 W 80+ Gold-.
I have exhausted all my dum dum brains ideas and would love it if any of you guys could help me with my year long $2000 journey.i have filled out the specs list and i will write them here if requested. Thank you very much

what does the event viewer say about the crashes? Also, is there any overclocking?

Maybe a RAM timing problem more than a GPU one? I had this type of CTD problems when RAM timings weren't absolutely rock stable.

yes i agree with above check you ram with memtest64 let it run for a good while and see if it picks up any errors and if it isnt the ram you only have the motherboard or harddrives/ssds left to blame.

why does nobody goes with the easy way first.

run memtest, make a backup and reinstall windows, the drivers, a game and test it again (to make 100% sure that software is not the problem)

after that i'd start looking at the GPU itself.

So checking the event log and eliminating overclocking are not the easy way (things to do first), but taking the drastic step of reinstalling windows is? That’s your first step? :shadedshu:

I just read in another thread where the USB3.0 header was causing a stutter, so why not test memory timings for a GPU problem? Its all logical now.

there is no overclocking, can you explain event viewer to me?

ive just uprgaded my kit with my pals old kit with no change, i now havve my 16gb kit plus his old 32gb kit both run at 3600

i have done a fresh reinstall of windows and a fresh driver installation as well, no go man.

ive downloaded mem test just now is there any setting i should change before i start this bad boy?

i do belive it is a software issue somehow, i have replaced nearly every part in this bad boy to no avail. the only thing i did not change was my hardrive and ssd but im not sure how that would effect my graphics card crashing. but im dumb and yall know what your doing so if you say to, im willing to purches new drives.

Maybe a RAM timing problem more than a GPU one? I had this type of CTD problems when RAM timings weren't absolutely rock stable.
CTD, especially with 3D Mark, screams unstable GPU core. Especially if 3D Mark gives an error message about failing to initialize the graphics accelerator.
About the unexpected terminations I had with GTA V, I dunno, but I had that problem in 2018, when using a GeForce GTX 960.

For loss of system RAM stability, I would expect corruption error messages from Windows, ranging from an error message in the event log, a pop-up box to a BSOD.

45 Minutes is not enough of a test IMO. Personally I use prime95 and leave it running overnight. There are times when I've only had a crash many hours in.

You have replaced most of the parts; GPU, PSU, CPU and RAM.

We still have the motherboard as a possible issue. Can you try a different PCI-express slot for the GPU and different slots for the RAM?
Can you try 1 RAM stick if you are still getting crashes?

Are you using custom power cables or the ones that were supplied with the GPU?

I had freeze issues on my newly installed system with an Asus ROG B550 E Gaming.
The system would completely freeze for no obvious reason and I had to reboot.
First I figured, it could be the SSD or M.2. Nope
Then I tested my RAM (switched RAM and slots). Nope
Various BIOS settings. Nope.
Also swapped the cooler and fan.
I tried a lot of things and became frustrated.
Turns out, I might have found the cause:
My GTX 1050 TI was in PCIEX_2. I reseated it to PCIEX_1 and so far no more freezes.
