GPU crashing with artifacts under load

HWinfo64 will give you temps for VRAMs and Core
core, yes..gram is a crapshoot... depends on the card and software.. it is not often you see vram temps on gpus...

I'm mobile so I cannot check to see if the card he is using is reference and his cooler supposed to fit in the first place....
 
Alright OP this is my suggestion

Take the cooler off and reapply TIM then reinstall the stock cooler. The new TIM will help with thermals. Once installed apply a custom fan curve to combat noise.

Run a loop of uniengine heaven and monitor temps

Sorry for taking so long, the thermal pads that I had to order took so long.

I reinstalled the old cooler now and ran Unigine Heaven.
My PC didn't crash and no artifacts appeared. Temps were good too:
75°C max GPU
My GPU doesn't allow me to monitor VRAM or VRM temps though.
I also think that those temps seem a little bit low for a 390, especially for the GIGABYTE version.

I still can't believe that the VRAM was overheating, since it actually had some pretty big heatsinks on it.
Could this problem also occur because VRMs are overheating? Because I personally think the included coolers are quite small.
With the stock cooler the main heatsink is cooling the VRMs as well, so that is plenty of cooling.

The temps improved because of the tim replacement. The issue with alot of GPUs running hot is contributed by manufactures using crap tim that isn't applied properly.

Even if it had big heatsinks if they are applied properly and the air flow isn't adequate they won't do diddly squat
