GPU no video output, detected by pc

GPU was perfectly fine (MSI RX480 8GB), decided to replace thermal paste, now it does not output video. When using integrated GPU, I noticed the gpu was still detected on GPU-z, but the readings were strange (see image). Pixel FIllrate, Texture Fillrate, Bus Width, Bandwidth are all 'unknown', while GOU clock, memory and memory size, shaders and TMUs are all 0. Everything is also 0 in the sensors tab. I've tried a different GPU, and it works so it's definitely the GPU issue. Reflashed BIOS, reinstalled drivers with DDU and it still doesn't work. Is it possibly hardware issue? I dismantled the GPU but I'm unable to see any obvious physical damage. Anyone have any idea or experienced this before?

i think another member had the same issue, try resetting your cmos... take the battery out and put it in again...
 
Loosen heatsink up, you could of bumped a part off too, take a complete board shot front and back
 
Is it a Gaming X? (had repaired one of these, it had different issue tho). Any strange moment while repasting? Any static electricity or chipped die? can you please take a closeup shot of the die, take your time if necessary (good thing would be to use a flashlight too). Also check near pcie, as gpuz is showing that its running x4, u may have knocked some of those small capacitors.

Yes, it is a gaming x. No chips and capacitors look fine. Also don't recall any strange static occurrences.

hm.. well. what is also weird is the thermal paste on the vram chips (only on the fragments that stick out from under the black heatspreader), was it already present at the moment u changed the thermal paste? If that appeared there due to cleaning process (u werent careful enough during wiping and the thermal paste got onto vram chips and possibly even further) then its most probably static damage. Also, what kind of cloth did u use while wiping?

hmm...the paste got there during wiping, yes. Didnt think much about it then. Thanks, that might be it. Is there a way to verify the static damage with a multimeter perhaps?

yes, at least partially. measure the continuity of the memory and of the gpu (put one probe on ground, which can be the one of the bolts of the dvi output, and other on the vrm coils, one by one, as shown on the photo in red), the normal readings should be 2-8 ohm on gpu and about 500-900 ohm on mem. BUT the thing is, measuring continuity usually helps to determine a short, but in your case the card doesnt appear to have that issue, as it powers on normally (just doesnt get hooked up correctly by the drivers/os) , if i understood correctly. Please check the area marked in green, is there any visible damage? Afaik thats the bios chip. Next possible step would be trying to extract the vbios (just use gpuz) and post it here, to see if its corrupt in any way.

Here's the vbios. Bios chip doesnt appear damaged, and yeah didn't find any shorts either.
i took a look at the bios (is that the og bios for this card?), and compared it to my msi armor rx 580 (mine has gaming x heatsink lol), and considering the rx 580 is pretty much an overclocked 480, they can be compared (?). As you can see on the screenshot (ur bios is on top), there are some weird differences, such as the vendor id and device id values, remember both are radeon+msi, but urs is 480 gaming x and mine is 580 armor (with gaming x cooling which doesnt matter here) , as wel as missing 1000mhz state for the memory. But i am really not sure (dont want to give false info, as i never modded polaris bios, only did hawaii and vbe for 7000 series). So hopefully someone with more info will comment on this. Unrelated to BIOS, i noticed something possibly strange on the GPU chip. A capacitor (?) read 3k Ohms as compared to everything else in the vicinity which was like 17 Ohms. Is this supposed to be normal?

My running guess right now is that the BIOS chip is fine, so the motherboard is talking to the GPU card, but the GPU chip is not responding to the BIOS chip or something like that. I'm a complete amateur so this might be completely wrong and is pure gibberish, but can a sequence of events like this produce the observations so far (GPU detected, but bunch of unknowns, and zeros for mem size, gpu clock etc.)?

well if its that black thingie then its a resistor, not a capacitor. 3K ohm may be just fine. Well, sadly it looks like static damage in the end:(
