I actually logged onto the server, checked the process list, noticed that nginx (web server software) wasn't running, checked the logs, found the problem, fixed it and restarted the instance. Apparently within one minute ^^

* What caused this in the first place? Hacker attack? Botnet? Router issues?
Botched server OS update(s)?

* Could it happen again?
If it could, you guys should have an automated system in place to restart nginx, not needing to use The Manual One. ;)
