GTA4 doesnt play well on my 5870

game play sucks its like it locks up for a slpit sec if i move to fast

and i get 10fps more on my 9600GSO in SLI at the same settings :shadedshu

Driver issue? try reinstalling 10.3 or 10.4 i think it is now?

if its the same system.. did you compleatly remove the nvidia driver? are you certain?

driver sweeper isnt picking up anything on nvidia

Try 10.3a's, they work best for me with this game. Definitely better than your 9600's. That being said... let's just say this game could of done some things differently. Maybe some smart individual can port this game over to whatever engine Just Cause 2 uses. Probablly not.

I heard this game is cpu based as well, but you have an i7 so problems there. It sounds like the drivers for sure. I had this same problem with my 285's and reinstalling the drivers fixed it.

gta iv is a known shity port and uses phyx ( hence the better fps with your sli)

It plays ok on my single 4870 512mb,not on high settings but it runs fine and is smooth.Its a pretty good game overall.

Nope. It uses the Euphoria engine. There is no PhysX with this game.

im going to try everything stock and see if that helps even try those other drivers

when i first got it i tryed ocing the mem and it had locked the system up after rebooting like 5 mins on the web ii got the gry lines in 2d clocks has anyone else card done that

and the mem cant even get 1300 stable even at1.35v im thinking im going to have to rma it

It's a crap game tbh for pc's. Very poorly coded. It ran very poorly on my GTX 295, had to rein in the gfx options to make it run anywhere near smooth. On my crossfire 5850's, it runs superbly - shame i got bored with the game.
I dont think NV got their hands on it, it's just woefully badly ported, imo.

I did not like gta4 at all, had to constantly hold every ones hand and call them and have happy go lucky lunch time with rasta man killer, like it was some kiddie hold hands love fest game.
Really disappointed me with the lack of air vehicles and the lack of my own apt or house.
No place to park anything either.

Game ran like crap as well, for what it was, it should of run better.
But that's what happens when a game designer focuses on nothing but physx.
that's all gta4 is, physx.
I didn't even finish playing it I thought it was so lame.
I hope your experience is better than mine.

Nope, there is no PhysX in this game. It's just poorly optimized for the PC. There was actually just an update for the game and it makes shadows way nicer and performance a little better. I'm playing the expansion now, it's pretty fun.

Anyways DOM, if you haven't done so, really give your drivers a good cleaning. If all else fails for me, I just go back to this guide I threw together: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=52502 - it usually sorts things out.

Getting to be a lot of them running around out there, I very well may of.
That's not the one that has only one helicopter and it looks like absolute garbage? lol..

Theres a nice mod which enables AA.
