Gtx 1080 Ti Fe - temp target not function

Bienvenue.

Ma carte Gtx 1080 TI FE stock.

Sometimes temp limit stops working on my card, fan goes from 49% to 60% on auto, and temps goes as high 85-86C and there is not thrm throttling on clocks on gpuz. Any ideas? Card is 1080 TI FE stock,no oc. No OC programs installed. Rebooting pc cure this. When i reboot pc 83-84C max ,clocks throttle and fan max 49%.

Ist das normal?

I tried on 378.92 and 382 drivers and on newest.

Card sometimes goes above temp limit which is 84C. Go to 85-86C and when i looking to GPUZ its showing PWR LIMIT ,not THRM LIMIT.
I must restart pc to make again 83-84C max Rebooting pc cure this. When i reboot pc 83-84C max again ,clocks throttle and fan max 49%.

Temperature suddenly goes past 84°C to 85-86C and the fanspeed goes up.

Gpuz shows Pwr Limit, instead of thermal limit.

I dont know why the card does it but it seems that it is ignoring the temperature limit all the sudden and using the powerlimit instead.

Can somebody explain me this? PLEASE . Is this normal or not? I am from England, sorry for using English .

The temp limit is default at 84. I thought at the default setting the fan is targeted at 50% and the card would start throttling once it hits 84c so it wouldn't go past the temp limit of 84. But in my experience it goes past that limit from time to time and the fan would spin at 60-65%. Is this normal? Again this is at default setting with nothing overclocked. Going past the temp limit hitting 85-86c ( without throttling , gpuz shows VREL or PWR limit instead of THRM ) with loud fan noise is worrisome. I'm not sure if this is a driver problem or this is normal.

I'd return the card/ RMA , that's not normal. I remember something like this happened once with my 1060 but I was overclocking it and I left the fan to 24% manually by mistake.

The most of time it hit will hit 83-84C max yes. But from time to time it ignor temp limit and goes as high like 86C and gpuz showing VREL or PWR limit instead of thrm limit. So rma card yes?

I tried on 3 drivers and the same.

It is really strange that after a reboot it's still at 84c. How many case fans do you have? There could be the possibility that you have some sort of power virus .

Why did you buy a FE card!?

Probably because they are the cheapest , anyway it shouldn't behave like that.

Nah i dont have a power virus.

How do you know for sure ? If you have pirated games some might come with things like mining software. Anyway if you say you know that for sure and If you have enough case cooling then I would say there is something wrong with the card , so I'd RMA.

Again , hitting 84c is normal , going beyond that and staying like that even after a reboot it's not normal.

GPUZ newest. But stats are accurate. They are correct.

I mean games/applications , what are running to put load on the GPU.

Ah. 3dmark ,unigine,tomb raider,gta v

Hmm , none of those games should push the card to reach such temps at stock clocks. Are you sure you have proper case cooling , you haven't answered that.

yes 1 fan intake, case is opened always without backsinde panel

Then , I'd RMA. Everywhere I have seen , the card only reaches 84c no matter what.

I bought card in march . So i must rma to retailer yes?

First yes , if you have trouble with that contact the manufacturer. You can also contact the manufacturer first and see what they say about the issue and then proceed with the RMA.

Hope they will accept rma?! But from other side. I met other user with 1080 TI FE and he get the same issue. So we both have faulty card? I am confused now.

Again , I can't answer that for sure , I for one think it is faulty. I don't know what to say if they'll accept it or not , it is a rather peculiar issue.

Hi @Tempe30

Try gaming with v-sync on to limit frame rate to 60. If your temp does not rise to 80+ everything is fine. If the 1080FE runs at an uncapped frame rate, it will almost always throttle and hit between 84-86 degrees, unless you have exceptional case cooling.

My 1080ti FE reached the temp limit every time gaming and the clocks throttled down (about1700MHz from 1800MHz). Under my water block it runs at 2012-2038MHz (hitting power limit).

That's the thing , from what I understand his issue is that the clocks do not throttle , instead fan speed goes up , which is abnormal. That's not how boost clocks work. GPU-Z also reports that the card isn't hitting temperature limit which it definitely should.

Wasn't sure due to language 'anomalies'. You're correct though, should throttle at that temp.
