Do you think cold cathode lighting has lost its appeal now?? i used to put them in my rigs but since i went red fans black case i think it looks better with just the light from the fans.

opinions? are cathodes still appealing?

i think theres always a place for cold cathodes for the real "look at my case" feel. I use em and I love it. Though if a case is clean and had all the lED fans it makes a clean subtle look I think

How I'd fanmod my PSU

Good starters guide, I do have some comments though:
Concerning fanmodding your PSU, this can be done way nicer if you don't cut the wires. Here's how:
Required: Small pliers, small flathead screwdriver, pair of tweezers or other similar tools of choice.
Assumptions: I assume your PSU fan is 2-pins and your new fan is 3-pins and them connectors do not mix!
Step 0: Unplug your PSU from everything. Really, you'd be Darwin awarded if you don't.
Step 1: Screw your PSU open, voiding the warranty obviously, and immediately stop your urge to touch stuff.
Step 2: Screw off your PSU's fan. Doing this before anything else makes it easier to work.
Step 3: Get insulated pliers. i.e.: pliers with a rubber grip, and a small flathead screwdriver (1,5-2mm), again, make sure you don't have to touch metal with your hands.
Step 4: Your fan's connector most likely has some glue on it. This is where the small flathead comes in. Locate the side of the fan connector that has the "clip", which is most likely the glue side and carefully maneuver your flathead into the glue, separating clip from connector.
Step 5: Get your pliers and grab the connector, jiggle a little, maybe some more glue cutting, it will come off.
Step 6: Fan connector wires are disconnectable! See the picture below, right side, and locate the small metal surfaces.

Now, I prefer using a darts arrow tip, but a small screwdriver should do the trick as well. Push down on the metal surface and try to slide it towards the side of the connector where the wires come out and they will... come out! Remember which wire went where!
Step 7: Did you remember which side of the connector had which wire? :D If not, write it down or something.
Step 8: Disconnect your new fan's wires from the connector as well.
Step 9: Now, compare the two types of wire end. This is where the fiddling part comes in. Look at the original fans wire connectors and try to make the new wire connectors look the same :D I used tweezers, pliers and even my darts arrow tip to make this stuff happen. This can be frustrating work! Take it easy, nice and slow!
Step 10: Now you should be able to snug fit the new wires into the old connector. Strip off the third wire or hide it somewhere if you think about re-using the fan someday. If you hide the wire, put a little tape around the connector to make sure it doesn't make any unwanted contact.
Step 11: Plug it in, screw it shut, power it on!

Footnote: I am not responsible for shocks, warranty voids or blown PSU's. This is how I did it. Also, I did use all-metal tools inside the PSU housing, but I figured I wouldn't put that in the instructions :D

I am currently modding a case for show and am up to just finished the first panel. It looks yello with some black soft detail. I also added random numbers for an effect.
