I'm thinking of upgrading from my old 8600GT to an HD4850 but i was wandering if my PC could support it (especially my PSU, i hope it has all the necessary cables  ) or if i would be better off just getting the similarly priced 8800GT. I have been hearing many good things about ATi's new cards so they are my first preference, but if you think i should buy the 8800GT instead tell me  .

P.S. I will probably be upgrading my monitor soon so please don't consider it's size as a deciding factor.

Thanks in advance

Yea get a 4850! I would get a new psu eventually but its not need right away. I had a Rosewill 550w working with a HD 3850 and 8800GT working for well over a year. A 4850 isnt that power demanding just make sure it has one 6pin PCI-E connector. And your cpu wont bottleneck it much if not at all.

If you game higher than 800x600, nope. You could easily overclock it though. I have my E6600 @ 3.2 GHz (400x8) @ 1.31 vcore without breaking a sweat.

If you got 1280x1024 or higher Ocing the cpu wont do as much as if you were on 1024x768 or lower.

My HIS doesn't come with one but if that review says Sapphire packs one in then it probably does cause Sapphire usually does put them in.

And we all start somewhere, imo there really isnt such a thing as a nooby question!

Thanks for the consolation :p.
Also, is there any specific brand you guys prefer to others? I will probably be getting the sapphire because of the bundled 6 pin cable, but if you think there is a better brand tell me. In Malta, the brands PowerColor, Sapphire and Connect3D are available. Which do you think i should get?

Hey guys,
so this morning i went to scan and bought the Asus one because the sapphires were out of stock. Everything seems to be going smoothly till now. There are only 2 things i would like to know;

1) What drivers should i download? I am currently running the ones that come on the disc with the card. Any links would be helpful.

2) Is it usual for this card to get a little hot? I've read many reviews that say it runs hot, and after playing cod4 for about 30 mins it was at 81 degrees celc. Should i be worried or is this normal?

thanks :)

1: 8.7 FTW
2: A little hot? Your in a for a surprise  Mine got up to 86c after hours of gaming with the stock cooler. If you turn the fan speed up you should be fine. Alot of people like 60-75%, I just got a Zalman VF900 and it works great tho. 27c idle 46c load with OC :pimp:

All my ATi cards have been Sapphire.
Just because they are one of the cheaper brands, it doesn't mean they aren't any worse quality.

In fact I'd say they are the top ATi manufacturer.
Pity about their Sapphiretech forums though.
Too many fanbois there who are quick to say it's your fault or some other non-Sapphire hardware if you think something is faulty with the card, regardless if it is the card at fault or not.
