when i done that i cant change mhz on gpu it goes back to 850 stock

And even when I unlock voltage control and monitoring I still have a blanked out slider for Voltage and no reading...bummer! 10.2 drivers, fresh install. Wonder if they changed the PCB and vrm control. Haven't tried to OC yet, it smokes my old GTX260 thus far! On the voltage deal, I just hope it's something simple I'm missing...fwir though it seems I covered my bases by checking the allow voltage control and voltage monitoring tabs, and restarting afterburner. Off to bed now, better luck tomorrow I guess. Sorry for the hijack, just got this card and this thread kinda fits with what I'm dealing with.

well like I told you Iam at 970@1300@1.237volts, and prolly can go higher, but I dont realy want to raise the volts up more, although ive seen alot of guys with volts well into the 1.36+ range, what are you up to in your clocks? are they stable? whats your voltage etc.. Iam sure we can get you rockin

I am at 1075/1275 @ 1.35 volt since some weeks and is stable, but have wc.

@4300Mhz, 1100/1275

Damn! I'd be tempted to try a different bios, but I must have a new rev card that doesn't support voltage monitor/changing...dammit! Oh well, it still smokes the 260 and I just wanted to mess around a bit...no need to OC yet, but still disappointing to say the least...

well ive tried up to 1.3 (max via msi afterburner) with no luck at all, any slight increase in either clocks leaves me artifacting and stuttering maybe i should try a different bios? can anyone recommend any?

I though you had the sapphire card but i see its the his brand, at another site there was a guy that was haveing exact same prob as you, he couldnt even raise it up 10mhz and it would artifact for him, I thought maybe it was just a bad chip on his card, anyone else with an his 5870 have luck o/cing it?

Are you overclockign the memory at the same time? I have found that just like my 4850 there are specific combonations of memory/core speed that just don't play well together.

Any more volts doesn't improve my overclock with out stutter or artifacting, not bad 100mhz on the core, was hoping for 1ghz though.

way to go! 1.312 is about as high as i would stay for 24/7 on air, now run some benches with that baby and enjoy it, amI totaly satisfied with my 5870
BTW what are your temps like if you run furmark or another gpu stresser?

i havnt monitored temps that much but i do see them hit low 80's when at full load overclocked.

IM sure they will be some good after market cooling soon for them.

highest mine goes to now at 970@1300 for temps is high 60's, I would need to check my notes but i think it was 67 or close to that.changing the thermal paste helped me out by about 3-5 degrees

After much work and many reboots and driver recoveries. I have found a temperature break point for overclocking on this card, at 74C it will start to artifact at 1010Mhz core at any voltage, and at even lower core speed with high voltage and temperature. I have been using furmark to test with, clocking the memory above 1346 with a high core clock results in driver recoveries or a hard lock. With less on the core 940Mhz I can run 1360ush before I start to lose performance. The optimal memory speed for my card seems to be 1338 or so.

Testing core voltage to temperature and speed, it seems if you can keep the core cool, you will get a much better overclock. So now I am really excited to get my waterblock and sinks on. No more high temperatures for this card.

i'm running 925/1275 at default vcore and temps get about 80C with 30% fan setting... stable and no artifacting though. @ 30% the fan is at the limit of how loud I will tolerate it.

summer is gonna suck having to listen to 50% fan speed like a blow dryer.. bah

No glitches for meh. I am happy that I got my system to run 1Ghz and 1336, under water I am hoping for another 25Mhz on the core with still lower temperatures.

Huh what do you know..... I did a After Burner Code Mod and I can now over clock past 900 with my Diamond 5870. So far I have had it up to 930 Core clock and 120 Mem clock with out trouble.

I am not sure if it was covered in this thread or not yet but you can overclock any 5870 using just MSI Afterburner when doing this Code mod..... Here is a link with Directions.....

But incase it hasn't been covered here yet all you have to do really is...

Go into your Programs files
Find MSI Afterbuner folder
Then find the MSIAfterburner.cfg file
Next find the code line that says this......EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0
Change the 0 to a 1 like so..... EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

Then your done..... the bad news is you won't be able to use the Voltage adjustments but you can overclock as high as you want on stock voltages....

Also if you have problems with an error that reads.....Access Denied or permissions error then download a program from here that will let you take control of this file...... once that is done everything will be all set..... Here is the program....

BIOS Editor

I had good luck using the RBE program here, flashing mky BIOS and getting the voltage up. Catalyst 10.1 give me some improvementbut I stated crasing with 10.2. I couldn't move anything up on my XFX 5870 without crashing.

Is AfterBurner the better way to go?
