It makes squealing noise when I load the card to the max (Crysis, Metro 2033, 3D Mark). On desktop and while playing low-specs games like Darksiders, NFS MW, Quake 3 there is no whinning.

My 6950s made that squeeling and ticking noise. I almost rma'd the cards till I put my ear to the system. The PSU made similar sounds too. I deduced that it was the PSU, had it changed out and noise is gone. It was making noise because the cards were slamming the PSU, and this particular PSU had seen better days.

Most consistent, loudest example I've encountered is definitely crysis menus. Game menus in general where you're getting thousands of fps seem to do it. Games that have the sense to automatically vsync the menus don't have the sound. I believe uncapped menus is why various mmos get blamed for killing cards inevitably at some point in the open beta stage.
