help all my program exe. and shortcuts are gone :/

hi every one i seem to have tryed to add some old reg backup to my win 7 install while backing up and now all my porgram exe and shortcuts are gone?
all the data is there just the exe,s are gone.

i had to reboot and then it updated the reg and when i went back on everything was gone
i checked and there are no restores after i put the data back on 2day
i checked event viewer and it shows a few of these

please help if you can, is all my data programs gone or just moved somewere?

if you had no sytem restore points set (as in it is disabled in windows) then the only explanations is that it backed up from the origional install and therefore of course the programmes didnt exist at that point and thats probably the cause of the loss of the exe. files, if this is the case you will unfortunatly need to re-install the programmes.

k thanks do you think it would be posiblie to use a data recovery software to restore the exe,s and app data back?
as i said all the data is still there just the prog files exe of all programs and save games etc.. every thing else is fine..
it so frustrating my steam games all guna have to redownload sup com ,fl studio install

also i have the hive files of the prev install but the wont import into reg.

I assume you have tried the search function in Windows alread and used the programme name.exe, have a look at this link for .exe recovery and a free download.....

did you ever right click on your desktop and see if the desktop icons are checked under "view?"

I had that issue once and was freaking out after an update, and that is what it ended up being LOL. It is the simple solutions that can be the most frustrating at times.

i tried that search aswel no avail..
stinger i tried anyway but it would not work as i think it was a reg update, dont under stand why it removed the exe's tho thot it would just remove file assoiations.

Check in your windows directory for a folder that might contain the previous install info/links, might be .old or just called "recover" or something like that.

there recovery but its only the winre.wim recovery folder :/
any found doesnt seem to have found the exe's so i think im just guna have to face the music and reinstall every ting....so annoyed i bet my dead island save game is lost and i was quite far init.!
awel there goes another day or 2 of my life..! lol

This sounds like a virus my dad had.. check to make sure show hidden folders is on.

@knootcn all exe arent gone a put all my backed up prog files folder back on fresh install then user folder..
accedentially tried to add a registry backup witch said it failed so i past no remarks until i rebooted,when sum updates started aplling and said updating registry....
so i asume that sinec i tried to backup the reg in windows as soon as i reboot it tried the registry restore again and wiped all .. the data used to run the apps in prog files and app data prog data folders..
example... rfactor folder.. = no rfactor.exe deadisland folder no exe..


so i was checking threw the ant found results and found sum exe's in
>lost files 2>$recycle bin
and there are about 20 recycle bin folders

anyone know how to make sense of the data in anyfound recovery?
there are alot of folders prob thousands wil i have to manually search and tick boxes i want to recover.?
or if i x the 2 lost files folders will it ruin other data on the hdd?

If you have already run a search for "programe name".exe and not found anything it is unlikely that what you are looking for will be there sadly.

Normally your saved games would be in "my documents" or thereabouts so you may be able to find them, often they are stored seperatly to the game directory.
