I need help setting up crossfire i had a Sapphire 4850 1gb installed now i installed a second one how many crossfire bridges do i need to put on it 1 or 2 and were do i enable crossfire in CCC I am using CCC9.5 or do i need to uninstall it and then reinstall it?

ok thank you is it bad if im using 1 bridge right now to talk to you? thanks

Nah, but you should use two for 3d apps.

i use one bridge, no performance hit or changes at all.

I've heard reports of corruption using two bridges at lower resolutions.

The 1 vs 2 bridges is a debatable topic. I ran a solo and had no problems.

To enable Crossfire open CCC in the Advanced View and go to the tab across the left that says Crossfire and enable it. It may be already. Have you checked GPU-Z?

Also you will need to install drivers after placing the second card in the second slot, restart, and enable CF after that.

well i run at 1920x1080 threw hdmi anyone know were i click to enable Crossfire still cant find it

well i run at 1920x1080 threw hdmi anyone know were i click to enable Crossfire still cant find it

the tab doesnt appear unelss both cards have been detected, and the bridge is working.

reccomended procedure:

install card 1
install ATI drivers
reboot
shut down PC
install card 2
reboot
crossfire will work.

In my case, i dont need to bother with installing the second cardl ater, i've installed vista and 7 several times with no issues.

i checked gpu-z says crossfire is off

reccomended procedure:

install card 1
install ATI drivers
reboot
shut down PC
install card 2
*may need to install gfx drivers again
reboot
*enable CF in CCC(if not enabled already)
crossfire will work.

Slightly modified, hope you dont mind

Or just put both cards in and install the drivers.. That works for me. You don't need to do all those steps.

Sometimes you do.

You also forgot about uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ which is in the link I initially posted.

2nd card obviously has a driver problem, it has a 48GHz core clock and no ram.

show us a screenshot of device manager, focusing on the two cards.

Uninstall ATi tool, and disconnect any uneeded USB devices.

Do all of this:

This works with XP or Vista, with both Nvidia and ATi. Make sure that your motherboard/chipset drivers are updated. If you just added a 2nd card to your system you may need to update your motherboard/chipset drivers again. If you are using Crossfire, have both cards installed with both crossfire bridges installed from the start.

Section A Control Panel
1. Uninstall any video card overclocking programs that are tied to your drivers. (Rivatuner, ATi Tool, etc.)

2. Uninstall video drivers. Generally this is done through the control panel (add/remove programs for XP, Programs and Features for Vista) in Windows. For ATi it called "ATi - Software Unintall Utility". For Nvidia it's usually labeled as "Nvidia Display Drivers" you want to uninstall. Restart. When restarted don't allow windows to install any drivers for your cards yet, just cancel out. Re-check in add/remove programs - Programs and Features for any remaining ATi/Nvidia display associated drivers.

Section B Registry See Fig. X
1. Click Start->Run. Type: regedit

2. In the registry editor Click File->Export. Save to your desktop (Now you have a backup of your registry.)

3. Expand the folder "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" (by clicking the "+" sign), then expand the folder "Software".

4. Find and delete any files/folders pertaining to your old video drivers in the Windows folder and Program Files folder(s) BE CAREFUL NOT TO DELETE ANY CHIPSET FILES OR FOLDERS.

5. Follow steps 4 and 5 for the folder "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click File->Exit and you are done.

Section C Windows See Fig. Z
1. Delete the ATi folder on your system drive.

2. Go to the drive that Windows is stored on and double-click on the Windows folder.

3. Delete everything possible in the Temp and Prefetch folders.

4.*UPDATE In Vista: Start-->Search-->For Files and Folders. Type ATI in the search box, go to advanced and be sure to tick the box to search unindexed drives (if indexing is off). Two ATi folders should pop up under C:\Users\"yourname"\appdata. Delete both!

5. Run Driver Sweeper

6. Empty the Recycle Bin. Restart.

7. Run Driver Sweeper again (just to make sure )

8. Before installing the new drivers go into "add/remove programs"(XP) "Programs and Features"(Vista) and uninstall all instances of Microsoft Visual C++. If you have an instance that doesn't want to uninstall, restart, then uninstall it.

Install New Drivers

Yeah, it's a bit lengthy but it should thuroughly get rid of anything prior or causing the issue. If you did do all of that and are still having problems, perhaps one of the cards are defective or have a borked bios.

ok will try i just had to turn my computer off for a bit the screen went blank for long time then i took 1 of the crossfire cables out seems to be doing better

EDIT: Well im trying to find ATI Tool but cant find it anywhere also should i get ride of one of these Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable i have 2 of those and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) i have 2 of those also installed

the errors pretty obvious atm, you have three broken devices in device manager, and two of them are video card related. you need to fix those.

Uninstall all four of them. For ATi tool look in Start/programs. Uninstall Ati tool from the device manager by right clicking on it.

ok i did that long list of things still don't have the crossfire tab i think im going to turn my computer off switch my crossfire bridges see if that does something

EDIT: well ive done pretty much everything i can do i have flipped all my crossfire bridge every way in all combination i have uninstalled/reinstalled Driver at least 3 times ive been doing 9.5 maybe later i will try 9.4 first im going to try flashing my motherboards bios that could be the thing im using kets mod bios will trry his latest these are some of the originals. first im going to get a bad night of sleep my dog is slowly passing away and theirs a big thunderstorm coming threw. Then i have to do a project for my Spanish class will report after that

EDIT:2 ok well i flashed my bios tried my new card just it installed it works great tested HAWX everything maxed did perfectly i read this http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=262&threadid=104951&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP CrossFire problems at ATI Forum[

You have Sapphire cards but i remember when i was looking at ASUS site i saw this BIOS update. I don't know what will happen if you flash them with ASUS bios
VGA BIOS for EAH4850/HTDI/1G P/N: 80-C1CL5K-L0A01
Fix there's no crossfire option in ATi driver panel.
Usage:
1. Download the BIOS from website.
2. Unzip the file under the windows environment.
3. Please install only one card while do VGA BIOS upgrade.
3. Double click ".exe" file and it will automatically update your VGA BIOS. Then follow the instruction to go to the further steps.
4. BIOS upgrade will be finshed after restart.
5. Change to another card and repeart step3 to finish BIOS upgrade for another VGA card.

hmm, maybe a bios update from another vendor would work i don't know, i have just my new Sapphire Card in, is this right for idle?gpU CORE CLOCK 160MHZ then GPU MEMEORY CLOCK 289.6MHZ i would take a screen shot but TPU capture wont let me upload it, everytime it just freezes then goes away. i wander if my GPU has a test bios init but GPU-Z says there the same wander if it is different.

after i uninstall all my GPU drivers what is the proper way to install with crossfire maybe im going that wrong do i install with both cards in and a crossfire bridge or do i install with just one card in i think i may try with both cards being that the only thing i havent tried

Both cards with bridges on from the start.

*Use the latest bios directly from Asus too. Most likely whatever modified bios you are using is messing with CrossFire.

ok will try both cards in from start if it doesn't work then i will re uninstall and update bios to ASUS
