The last few days my laptops gfx card, Nvidia nvs 135m, has been failing. The screen starts to "fizzle" and then pops up with a distorted blue screen that states that a hardware failure has occured. After I reboot it works again, but im not sure what the cause of this is. Is there any fix for this, or a program i can run to analyze the problem?

your Dell has a affected nvidia graphic card that failure in time.

If you own a Dell Inspiron 1420, Dell XPS M1330, Dell XPS M1530, or Dell Latitude D630/D630c it is highly recommended that you first install this Dell software update.

Dell stated that they will fix it even if it's out of warrenty. so call dell

Thx for the info, im looking into it now. So is it just a software update that is needed for this as said in ur first post, or is there an internal hardware error?

both. software could prevent hardware failure, might be too late for yours. contact dell.

HP didn't have anything like that:mad:

there was an entire line of nvidia IGP's/MCP's that had massive failure rates and kept getting recalled. At a guess, these are the last remnants of that fiasco.

Oh, yes they did.

I had one.

By that, I mean; I still have it, but it runs cools now that I tore it down and did a little maintenance, like put some real thermal paste and pads on it, where they had just sticky grey pads. And, they were all askew; half off the darn heatsinks.

so that people know, all these driver/BIOS fixes do is ramp up the fan speed, so that the nvidia components dont overheat (which basically kills them on the spot, unlike NORMAL hardware which just shuts off)

its a workaround, not a fix.

Yep, before the bios update, it had one fan speed...slow.
On the new updated bios the fan will ramp up when the unit warms.
IMO, the heatsinks and fan they used was inadequate for the heat generated by the cpu/gpu/harddrive combo.

Well umm...back to mine, that dell corespondance hasnt been working. Im going to be buying a new laptop with a core i5 and a radeon hd 5650 within 2 weeks. Does any1 have a quickfix that will enable my computer to run for that time with limited issues?...one that same note, is a hd 5650 better than a geforced gt 330 for a notebook..the two computers have completely identical specs except these.

I believe i may have solved this problem, or at least until i get a new computer. I have overclocked my fan to a good level, which seems to properly cool the gpu. Under this stress, the fan is likely to fail within a few weeks, but i think it will hold until i get my new computer in. Thx for all you input and help with this matter.

The computer is a Dell D630, it sports a core 2 duo, at 2.2GHZ and a nvidia quadro nvs 135. The problem I was having is a blue screen and graphic card failures. If you can come up with something i would be much abliged

If it works with a higher fan speed, yes cooling is the issue. If you are handy with taking things apart, you can take the laptop apart and blow the dust out of it and possibly re-seat the GPU cooler with some new thermal paste. If not, that's something any local PC shop would be happy to do for you. :toast:

I may give that a try, im gonna keep this overclocked for now and continue monitoring temps ect and ensure that its all working. If it can make it for 2 days, theres a good chance ill take ur advice to take apart and clean/apply thermal paste. Do you know where i could aquire that, store wise?
