seeing that your ram timings default at 5-5-5-18 for 400 mhz, i would say loosen them up a little more (something like 6-6-6-20....man that is loose) or lock in the ram at the frequency it is right now. is that the cheap kind of ram? if so....that's probably you're problem. so yeah, lock the frequency of the ram, or try loosening timings. your c2d shouldn't be maxing at 2.8 ghz, and a p965 should get higher than 410mhz fsb. oh and try going ~50 mhz higher (take a jump) i read the bootstraps matter alot.

for instance, if you have your fsb at x mhz it's at x timings (it was new to me that nb's have latency timings or something like that, but it makes sense). at certain fsb's the nb can't go any higher without loosening timings (only accomplished when hitting a certain, higher fsb)

(ps im not sure, but this could be from another chipset, but im pretty sure this applies to all chipsets)

I reckon 6.6.6.18 would be better. 6.6.6.20 is really loose.

just uh....not to big of a jump, 50 mhz may be a little big, i forget. it's possible something like 10-20 mhz on the fsb will do it. oh and voltages.....etc...just try to make sure it's stable :D

If you want to test your RAM let memtest86 stress it for a couple of hours. Be sure to use the dual core version of orthos too for overall stability. Also to get higher you're going to need to alter the FSB:RAM ratio at some point. Otherwise you're going to find it hard to get over 2.9GHz

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=30480 read this for more details - excellent guide.

Also not a critism here but the mods get pissed off if you make the thread titile "help!" Instead use something like - 'E6300 overclocking advice'

I've ran orthos and memtest no issues at all 24/7 stable:toast:

My fsb/ram ratio kinda limited on ratios atm 1:1 right now.
But this ram is known to overclock well:banghead: maybe me??:wtf:

Ty for the tips btw on the OC and the forums:toast:

Yes I believe the ADATA modules overclock very well. Just give them some more voltage and you could probably get them to run faster in conjunction with a higher FSB. However do read up on FSB:RAM ratio as it'll help when you reach the limits of your cpu.

Oh and, no problem mate
