HIS 9600 ViVo overclocking(newbie)

Hi,

1)
i am very confused about this card. HIS tells on his page (http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_sp.php?id=93) that this card uses a 64bit memory interface at the top of this page, and in the details it tells that the memory uses 128bit?

The ATItool shows me 128bit and a rv350 chip.

Another thing is, that HIS shows on this page, that the memory clock is 400MHz, but the ATItool shows me 202,34 MHz! What is correct?

2)
At http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ i can read, that the ATItool has
" No limits overclocking". Does this means, that the overcklocking lock of the ATI chips can be unlock with the ATItool?

3)
If i want to use the ATItool, is it ok to start the catalyst controllpanel our does this reset the options which are set from the ATItool?

4)
Can i overclock the Radeon 9600(rv350) with the ATI catalyst driver or does i need the softmoded driver?

Many thanks.

Regards,
Tom

1)Its 128 bit if ATITool says it is

2)ATITool can unlock chips in the settings menu, then under the drop down list, miscellaneous, and check the box for "remove clock lock" I do reccomend getting either the softmod or omdega drivers

3)ATI control panel is fine

4)Ive had some problems with the original ati driver, get the latest softmod driver from this website or the omega drivers (google "omega drivers")

5)Set 2d (windows) profile, and 3d (games) profile, ATITool will automatically overclock your card when you play games to the speed of the profile selected, then when using windows it will revert to the 2d profile selected.

6)Have ATITool start with windows, it needs to be running to overclock your video card. It takes up very very very little system resources (only 916 k memory usage for me)

Hi,

thanks for that quick answer :)

What do you think, how high i can overcklock the core/mem?

My reason to overclock is my really bad performance with doom3.
System: AMD64 3000+ (oc to 2200Mhz) / 512MB DDR 400 2cl / HIS Radeon9600 128M

FPS in Doom on 1024x786 HighDetails = 8

I thougt that with this card i could play the latest DX9 games, but i cant!

What do you think about bios flashing for this card? Can i improve perfomance by doing this?

Thomas

maybe you can. But overclock depends on the particular card......you have to check the core/mem settings you want to flash before flash.

Every card is different, but with the right cooling you can get the core over 400 mhz
No matter how much you OC your card, you wont be able to play Doom 3 on 1024x768 with high detail, my card is almost at 9600 Pro speeds, and I get decent framerates on doom 3 at 800x600 with medium graphics and all the special effects.

OC'ing the memory all depends on the memory chips, just run "find max memory" for about 2 hours.

Hi,

i have used the ATItool to find out how much i can oc my HIS Excalibur 9600 ViVo(NO FAN).

ATItool shows me after 2 hours for core and two hours for mem, that i can oc my card(WITH NO FAN) from core/mem 325/200 to 460/260!!!

Is it a good idea set the 3D-profile to 450/250?

I have order a grafic-cpu fan. Do you think i can go higher with the fan installed?

Regards,
Thomas

Check what core you have, if it is a RV360 then you should flash it to 9600XT once you get the fan. DO NOT FLASH IT TO 9600XT SPEC WITHOUT A FAN!

Hi,

ATItool tells me that my cpu is a

ID: 4150
Chip Type: RV350
Memory Size: 128MB
Bus width: 128bit
Active Pipelines: 4

Does ATItool shows me the right information( i have a RV350), or must i remove
the cooler to see what chip i have.

Thomas

about the 400MHz/202,34 MHz question

since your memory is DDR rather than SDRAM, so it sends two bits of information in a single clock cycle compared with SD's one bit per cycle, so 202,34Mhz is the real frequency while 400Mhz is the equivalent frequency in standard of SDRAM.

You must remove the cooler to see what chip you have. Make sure you know how to clean off the surfaces and apply new thermal paste before doing so.
