Horizon Forbidden West Performance Benchmark

Sure let others decide from the images you posted vs the 4k dlaa video I Posted which one is superior subjectively speaking.
Still image vs 4k dlaa at 90 to 100 fps. This should be interesting. I love this.

"I wasn't trying to trigger you" - sure.

And i couldn't care less what you or any other "smart" people like you think about it, or anything else really.

An amazing looking game that actually runs well.
People always ask "what counts as optimized?" and I think this can be a great example.

Pop quiz how do spell subjective, and bias much? Also how does 4k texture assets improve beyond the assets provided by developers?
The only thing superior in image quality to 4k dlaa is 8k native/ dlaa and 8k set to dlss set to quality imo. The sampled image in 8k dlss set to performance is 1440p and ultra performance is your favorite 1080p you keep on mentioning. You love 1080p. Questions?

It's funny when people try to act smart about stuff they clearly know nothing about.

I'll admit the 8k image does look superior in the above 2 photos. What settings are both set to?

Maxed 4k dlaa, maxed 8k dlss ultra performance.

This game is a GRAND SLAM. If you play single player PC games, you need to play this. (play HZD first)
Graphics, gameplay, story, etc.
I am having no performance issues, symptoms of memory leak, etc. its amazing how fast it loads too. From clicking the steam play button, hitting esc to bypass intro logos, and pressing Enter to continue, its like 12 seconds until I am in game.
I wish it had built in benchmark
I wish it utilized my hardware more. My CPU/GPU temps barely go above idle in WC system. I feel like there is a lot of performance left on the table. GPU usage rarely goes above 90% on all 3 of the PCs I have tried on so far. I want it pegged at 100% pumping out all the frames...

thats why sony is mostly great they really give the devs the time to optimize itz even if its very expensive to do so.

Another issue i've noticed is nvidia reflex - with just reflex enabled it cuts off your fps by about 5, and with reflex + boost it reduces fps by as much as 20 fps !

Does the latency get significant improvement? Or does the latency also get worse with dropped frames? Guessing this is at the 8k dlss set to ultra performance?

I find that it scales with your fps - so lower res and higher fps gets a bigger performance penalty with reflex, and especially reflex+boost. Latency still gets improved as you would expect though.

Nvidia at Gamer's Nexus @ 27:30 says it's normal to have a 1 to 3% fps loss although this seems larger.

I can't believe it's been 2 years since I played this. Feels like yesterday. :(

Definitely my favorite IP from Sony, it hits my taste exactly. And even though I like the story in the first game more (you're discovering the world for the first time), the gameplay, map and quest design are improved significantly in this one.
Pretty much my only gripe with the game is the consumables interface, how you have to toggle between them one by one, which makes it completely unusable during combat. But even if you don't want to use it and have 0 of any items, they're all still there, and it takes forever to switch between the healing potion and your mount. One of the most annoying features I've ever seen in video games, which they made even worse in the second game by increasing the number of consumables.

Looks like it's a really great port. At this point Nixxes should handle every single Sony game, even if it takes longer. They are truly the masters of PC gaming and every single PC port should be compared to their work.
I guess the only thing they could improve on is adding ray tracing support. With this high level of performance it would be welcome.

I just played God of War on PC ( for $18) and I thought that was a great port as well. Solid 4k locked 120 fps at max settings and resolution no smoke and mirrors upscaling no frame gen.

Daaayumn. Runs great, my GPU is at spitting distance from a hugely more expensive 4080, looks great, no DRM… can’t wait to play it, as I really like the first one (but have a huge backlog of games to play…).

OK but they stopped manufacturing the 4080 a year ago so should only use the 4080 Super in all benchmarks now.
If there is no significant difference then the information can be extrapolated with similar like behavior. Significant differences would normally be > 5% delta.

I found my issue with low GPU usage. Turned off the nvidia reflex stuff - instantly went from ~120FPS to ~170FPS and GPU is now pegged to 99% usage.
Game runs and looks amazing.

With higher power consumption, tearing and probably higher input latency? If achieving 99% GPU usage is your main priority, then you're doing it very wrong.

True but it seems there is a bug with reflex in this title that caps frame rates maybe syncing something with the engine this would be a problem with weaker gpus under the the max monitor threshold for the tearing part.

So what? I didnt buy a 4090 to have it run at 90% usage. I was fine with the power consumption figures before I made the purchase.
There is no perceivable input latency difference, and LESS tearing. The game feels smoother overall. The frame rate is more consistent with less frame drops and hitching.
Its not that 99% GPU usage is my main goal, but when I feel like there is something holding the system back from running at its best, im going to try to find it.
Im not saying the reflex stuff is bad, but I think it is causing issues for me in this case.

Isn't your screen 144 Hz? How do you get less tearing going over that? There shouldn't be any tearing below 144 FPS, but there has to be over 144, unless you're using Fast Sync (which would introduce judder). You're saying things opposite to how they should be, which could indicate some other major issues with your system, not related to this game.

It is 144hz yes. The further you stray from native refresh rate (above or below) you will see more tearing.
