How retarded is this.. I don't know my password and therefore can't log into my account to access emails....

So they send password change instrucions to the account which I can't get into:

Am I missing something here or is Microsoft actually retarded, whoever came up with this PW retrieval method should be immediately fired.

Thanks for life to anyone who can help me out here. What ever happened to secret questions etc...???.

You should have entered in as your second email address the one of a friend or family member or whatnot. I personally have an email account JUST for this type of problem that I never log into unless I have an issue. That way it never gets compromised.

so should I create a new hotmail account and get PW reset instructions sent there? would that work?

Nah, you have to register the e-mail with them when you're signed in.

E-mail 'em mate, they'll change it no worries. Year before last I forgot my password, I just had to e-mail them with a picture of me, holding a hand-written note displaying my name.

I usually call the provider (Microsoft, whoever) until I get a friendly female voice on the line (hang up until you do!). Then within 5 minutes I can convince her to let me onto the account. :)

I don't suppose anyone knows their contact details for the UK? Can't seem to find an email address or phone number in the "Windows Live Hotmail Help Center"...

Thanks again for the help guys :toast:

This has been happening a lot; I've had two people call me with the same issue.

Call any microsoft line. Software, zune line, etc, and tell them the problem. They will give you the correct number for the line you need to call (you might look like an idiot, but who cares?).

thanks, just been there and made a thread on their "private forum" hopefully I'll get a reply within 24 hours.

You won't (in 24 hours). Just call.

Where did you call again? I work at MS tech support and there's NO WAY we can do anything about MSN accounts. We can direct them to Hotmail Plus support and that's about it.

EDIT: BTW, I'd say 10% of the calls I take is about this bundled with Facebook hacks. :(
