My laptop screen panel is broken (image attached)
I can't fix it myself (surprise surprise)
and I've tried contacting HP but because I'm out of warranty the don't want anything to do with me.
Only things I can do now:

1. Get it fixed locally
2. Email HP and get them to fix it
3. Complain to HP in regard to the lack of support offered. (Maybe they'll fix it for free if I complain? who knows ;d)

I can't tell what's wrong with it (images are focused on the background, not the laptop). If it's damaged physically, most OEMs won't touch it since it's not covered under warranty. If it's the casing for the screen panel, I don't believe they are hard to replace (I've had a few Dells and a Toshiba apart this far). Can you find parts on ebay or from HP?

errr haven't looked for parts
there's no way I could fix it ahaha

You can usually find used parts for laptops. What's the model? It's not as hard as it seems to mess with laptops, once you get used to it. :)

It seems to be a HP Pavillion DV6000 series, right?
There are tons of parts on eBay to repair that model. Try to find a good deal on a watered down laptop where only the carcass is ok.
It's rather easy to replace parts on a laptop, especially this one, since there are service manuals on the web.

Ohh, if it's a DV6000 it's a piece of cookies. The web is littered with spare parts, and there are a lot of companies selling laptop parts with a warranty as well. :)

If you need spares let me know, I've just sold a dead dv6700 for spares (fried mobo).

dv9000 series :]

Well, the DV9000 is not that widely available, since it was the most expensive model, but I still think you can find (at least) one or two.

HP wont fix it, a good local repair shop should have no problem

To me it looks like the hinge is broken. Is it broke were it folds when you open or close the LCD panel? If it's the hinge those are cheap and a piece of cake to fix.

Honestly from having to deal with this kind of stuff on a day to day basis i wouldn't say its worth it at this point. if you take it to a local repair shop theres a good chance they're ordering the part from blue raven

this is a response i got from the last laptop that came in with a busted screen:

"
Hi Rick,

Part# L3752

$249 with exchange

$289 with out

Thanks.

"

now this isn't including the markup on the part + labor which i would normally charge in the range from 90 - 120 $ to change it out.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news on that part but unless you can find one on ebay with a good screen you can gut out and use as a replacement i would personally say its better just to take the hard drive out and move on.

If it does happen to be the hinges the last quote i got on a refurbish retail part was $100 not including markup or replacement cost.

hope this helps.

Yeah it's the hinge I think
I'll try at a local pc shop, but I just know they're gonna over-charge haaha

Send it to me with a little money and I'll fix it for you buddy.

I'm in the UK xD

Nevermind:slap:

Hopefully someone will be fair cause I know hinge replacements do not take that long to do and it seems their are plenty of ways to get the hinges at a decent price because purchasing through the OEM or 3rd Party Rip-off shop.

the hinges are quite easy to install. all you have to do is remove the screen bezel (screws under the rubber bumpers) pop the bezel off. remove the lower screws attaching the upper part of the hinge and there goes the screen. then for the lower portion just unscrew the screws under the battery compartment pop off the top bezel portion that sits under the screen and voala there is the lower portion of the hinges. unscrew those and your home free at that point.

If you aren't confident in your own skills, look up computer repair shops near you, and take the one with the best combo of cheap price and good reputation.

See it as a way to level up your Laptop Repair skill.
