I formatted an old HDD before i reinstalled W 7.

How do i get rid of the options to start W 10 and Ubuntu?

Sorry about the poor quality pic, the top option is W7, which is my o/s of choice for this PC

Clicking on Ubuntu or W 10 takes me to repair screens

Format it with the windows disk and remove the partitions.

Or use diskpart from the command line

msconfig gave me the option to remove W 10, but no option to remove Ubuntu, so i have done that

diskpart told me that partitions 1 + 2 were in use.

I deleted partition 3 using disk management but i still get the option to use Ubuntu at startup.

I set "timeout" (msconfig) to 3 seconds so the boot screen only flashes up momentarily (about 1 second)

If i have to reinstall i will.

Might EasyUEFI help? You can edit boot order in there, and I reckon it should be able to delete stuff that doesn't exist anymore.

Does it work in BIOS as opposed to UEFI?

Mobo is GA MA 785GT -UD3H using F 8 BIOS from 2010

Unfortunately, it looks like EasyUEFI is confined to EFI systems. Trying to use it elsewhere gives an error message.

However, from here http://askubuntu.com/questions/63610/how-do-i-remove-ubuntu-in-the-bios-boot-menu-uefi
It looks like you might have a shot with the Live Ubuntu CD, if you can use the efibootmgr tool.

EasyBCD is another suggestion, but some people say it only pertains to Windows and not the bootloader itself.

delete partitions and resintall win. if win installer ask you if you want to make dual boot cause it detect another os press no and it will overwrite boot manager.
it will be easyer this way then to try to remove lilo manually

I decided not to let my OCD get the better of me, this problem adds about 0.5 seconds to the boot time. The page i showed in post #1 flashes past in the blink of an eye and i dont have to choose the o/s any more.

Given that i have already d/l a pile of games to the HDD i am going to leave it as it is and not bother reinstalling. When funds permit i will fit an SSD anyway.

It is way better than it was, thanks for your help everyone.

In the future, at install (not after, wipes partitions too):

hold shift+f10

at the command prompt type "diskpart." hit enter.

type "list disk"+enter find your disk. Now type "Select disk 0"+enter for example.

then type "clean"

enter the command "exit" twice.

Your disk should be clean.
