Cable connection in 90% of the cases.

Main PC - ethernet
Laptop - ethernet & WiFi
Phone - WiFi; hardly ever use phone for going online

no poll place for Phone wifi tether
No poll place for i Bludge / mooch off of neighbours wi fi ( some do ) :)
Fixed the former, the latter would still need to use a wi-fi client or hard wire connection and don't move next to me :D

"Hey google, connect me to the internets via the fastest method"....which is normally my 10mGB/ns ultrananomicrofiberopticals

In my house everything that can possibly be connected via Ethernet is connected via Ethernet. Notebooks, unless I want to be able to pick them up and go places with them in the house, are connected via Ethernet. The 2.4 GHz spectrum around my house is an interference nightmare, because of that WiFi is damn near useless (I can barely hit 50 Mbps, and that's on a good day) for any major data transfers so... Gigabit Ethernet it is.

If/when you do this, make sure you research the cable you buy. There's technically no such thing as CAT6e. It's not a real standard, it's just companies putting the "e" on there to make it sound like they support a higher standard. The "e" could mean anything, or even nothing, and those who label their cables as CAT6e are already intentionally trying to mislead you. So that makes them automatically untrustworthy to me, because what else could they be lying about? So research your cable, and don't pay extra for the "e".

(CAT5e is a real thing, but not CAT6e)

I'm just going by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10_Gigabit_Ethernet - About half way down, there's a bit about "Class E channel using category 6, Class Ea channel using 6a or 7 twisted pair-55 m (Class E cat 6) 100 m (Class Ea cat 6a or 7)" so I'm none the wiser at the moment..

It's a while off doing anything as yet, but I'll be sure to post up a build log or something when I do it :)

EDIT - And I might have been miss quoting or something so I'm still learning the networking side of things for doing the upgrade!! :)

No ethernet options in the poll? Really?

Telrad 4G antenena -> CAT5 unshielded -> surge arrester -> CAT5 shielded -> power injector -> CAT6 shielded -> Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite -> CAT6 shielded -> Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch Lite -> CAT6 shielded -> CAT6 shielded keystone jack -> CAT6 shielded -> Netgear GS108 -> CAT6 unshielded -> Killer NIC integrated into my motherboard

25 feet in the air on the antenna at one end of the house to 8 feet underground on the other end of the house.

Class E refers to the signal and what frequency channel it runs on. That’s a totally different thing than “Cat5e”. The category standards are a group of specifications which specify how fast a cable has to be and how far cable can be run. (Among other things.) Class E refers to the signal, in the (I think) 250 and 500mhz bands. Apples and oranges.

Bottom line, anyone trying to sell you Cat6e cable is lying to you, because cat6e as a standard doesn’t exist. So what else are they lying about? Probably lying about their materials, construction, shielding, and max run length too.

There is CAT6A. If memory serves, it's intended to operate 2 Gbps.

6pc's and 3 lappy Ethernet 1.5-2gbps speed
All running with Cat8 cables, we Been using cat6 copper wires,cat6a and cat7

Try Cat8 no loss signal.. but I think not out yet in the market....

Yes, CAT6a is a thing. Max of 10gbps, extra shielding, tighter twisted pairs, etc.

CAT6e is not a thing.

Cat8 doesn't exist yet... You may have some cables that have extra features that may or may not end up in the Cat8 specification, but the governing bodies have not defined the Cat8 spec yet. So there cannot be any Cat8 cable if nobody knows what Cat8 cable contains.

So... once again, if you've been sold Cat8 cable, you were scammed.

Hi there,
All my devices, through Wi-Fi .
The source is my smartphone
have ADSL 5 mbps in my flat but it tends to crach due to bad connection with neibor.

2000 MHz over at least 30m distance (ANSI/TIA standard). 8.1 uses 8P8C terminals and 8.2 uses CAT7 connectors (TERA/GG45) which will be approved by ISO some time this year.

A fine line to be sure, but since it hasn't been ratified it doesn't exist. Those are proposed specs, yes. But nobody can sell or otherwise procure Cat8 spec cable, because the spec has not been ratified, and therefore doesn't exist from a consumer standpoint. So I maintain that anyone selling "Cat8" cable as of the time of this post, is a scammer.

Where's Ethernet?

Main - Ethernet
Laptop/Devices - Wifi

Cat6e is just a marketing gimmick for companies to pretend there IS a cat6e standard, so they can sound superior to cat6.

That isn't to say that they might not actually be superior. They might indeed be, or have extra features that go above and beyond cat6. But the fact remains that they're piggybacking off an industry standard name, in order to fool the consumer into thinking it's a superior spec. Since there's no specification for cat6e, if they print that on their cable or market it as such, it could mean anything or it could be nothing. Could be snake oil filled cable for all we know. So I won't buy from them, just as a matter of principle.

Of course it's obvious you understand this Ford, I'm just saying all this for those who might be duped by such a scheme.

No i'm not! I work at cable company data and electrical cables. We already made the Cat8 but not yet sold in the market or overseas. Until the government gives us the signal to release in public..

I didn't mean that you were scamming anyone. I meant that anyone trying to sell Cat8 right now is scamming people.

As a side note, it's going to be a shame if your company made all this cable, and ISO decides to change the spec and you can't any longer label your cable as Cat8...

We have already all specs of the Cat8 cables. Different process, raw materials etc etc. We are iso certified as well. And we know what are we making.

I'm just looking forward to having a 10Gb network at home :) It'll be a few years off yet, but I will definitely be doing something about my current setup.. Drives max out at about 160Mb/sec, as they are only 4Tb WD Reds, I might have a dumping drive or something that would support 10Gb speeds and a bit.. I'm not going mental looking into 100Gb network but definitely 10Gb. 1Gb network is so last week...

Shame my internet speeds here aren't even 40Mb but hey.. As long as the internal speeds are better once it's downloaded or it's on the server.....!! :)

I must have mistyped or done something with mentioning 6E cables, so no stressing over it people please :) Friendly discussion and chat and all :)
