How hot should it run?

Now I know I could have found out this info by searching it on the net. But where is the fun in that?
My sisters husband just bought an Corsair MP600 nvme ssd and shared a screenshot showing it running at 48 while I guess under load. The speeds are really amazing but that temp though.
I told him I think that might be too high because it even has an heatsink on it.
That's when he told me his old samsung used to run at 76 which i think is an exaggeration on his behalf.
I guess my question is how hot should the SSD run? Nvme or regular ssd? How hot does yours run?

My runs from 26-35c but I have a front panel fan blowing air on it. I have a Samsung 850 Evo.

For what it's worth, coming from a guy who's SSDs are only 2.5" SATA drives, 48 C doesn't sound alarming for a high end gum stick.

It's fine, they tend to run fairly hot under use, even 60c is perfectly normal (under load).
Ive 2 of them my self.

For MP600 it's normal to stay idle at 40C, so having around 50C under load is more than good. Some people reported throttling at 70C and beyond, but you've gotta make it work really hard to get there.

Does anyone peel the label off the nvm-e before placing it in the heat sink? Samsung does say it'll void the warranty, but I'm wondering if it'll be measurably beneficial for temperatures. Maybe I'll try it sometime to see if it makes a big difference.

Right now, temps are the same as OP's: 26-35 deg C on normal desktop, and haven't exceeded 56 deg C on load yet. It sits under a nice ASUS heat sink and usually gets the cool air from the blower of the gpu which idles around 26-28 deg C right now but not during folding (82 deg C at 85% usage). Then, things climb into the mid-upper 40s or so. I just take the mesh lid off the top of the case, that helps a bit.

48 deg C under load sounds ideal, actually and is lower by about 8 deg than mine. :)

tried that on my old SX8200 - no difference whatsoever. Though, mine wasn't a paper label, it was something like a thick foil label, which was supposedly acting like a heatspreader of its own. I don't think that regular paper/vinyl label would be much of a thermal obstacle and make any big difference in temps...

As other said, NVMe drives run hotter than SATAs. Given the fact that we all use them as OS drives (if 1 installed) levitate temp levels a bit more.
Right now my 2 SATA(storage) drives are at 25C with no air flow at all and the NVMe(OS) is on 32C with board heatsink (sticker on) and some airflow around it.
All 3 drives are under 23~24C ambient.

In general most NVMe have a critical temp around 80~85C but start throttling speeds maybe around 65~70C depending the drive.

It really depends on its surroundings, how much hotair/airflow are present from case ventilation, cpu cooler, vga clooer etc. Is it in a desktop or a notebook?
Btw, 60 degrees on load with a m2 drive is totally normal/acceptable

My Samsung 980 is 58 degree in an itx board with a heatsink from the board, with noctua d9l and close to zero case ventilation .

Well, it looks like OP is running a Desktop according to his specs. I just bought and installed one of these this past weekend--a 980 Pro/500 GB. This thing is amazing.

It also runs generally about 4 deg cooler than my prev. 970 EVO Plus. Currently, it's at 33 deg C under the ASUS heatsink, ambient is 23 deg C. No special cooling or extra ventilation here either. I don't think I'll ever go backwards from the 980 Pro.

34C for mine at idle under it's heatsink, albeit I have just this minute come out of a 3 hour gaming session but I do have some 140mm intake fans at the front of the case fairly close to it's mounting (20 - 25cm).
