I was going to place this in the "How many fans do you have on your PC case" thread but decided it could hijack the topic so I created a new thread.

So I had some free time while watching Sunday's games and decided to run some thermal tests on the CPU. Take all results for what they are; unique to my case, cooler, and fans...so obviously they should be taken as gospel for all your airflow /cooling situations.

Stress test used - 20 minutes of Intel XTU. PC was then shut off for 15 minutes to cool off before the next test. I used both Intel XTU and HWmonitor to confirm CPU temps.
Case - Phanteks P400S with dust filters on both roof panels, front roof panel has no fan
CPU - Intel i7-9700k @ 4.9ghz all cores
Cooler - Noctua U12A with both fans set to normal setting in the BIOS (about 1600rpm tops)
Front Fans - two TB silence 140mm @ 750rpm roughly 66m3/h set to full speed setting via BIOS
Top fan rear - Noctua NF-P14r redux set to 950 rpm roughly 90m3/h via BIOS
Rear fan - Noctua NF-S12A @ 1200rpm roughly 105m3/h set to full speed setting via BIOS

My basement office temp was 71F, all other temps below are in Celsius (or centigrade if you prefer)

First test I removed the front panel of the case, the side glass panel, and both roof dust covers. I then continued to place items back on the PC case for each test (i.e. so the third test includes the glass side panel and so on)

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 70c

Second test I just added the glass side panel

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 71c

Third test I added both top dust covers

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 71c

Fourth test I added the front panel

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 73c

Fifth test I turned off the front fans

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 77c

Sixth test I turned the front fans back on but switched the rear fan from 1200rpm to 900rpm

CPU Temp after 20 minutes of the stress test - 76c

and then I stopped. I didn't test the GPU but it never breaks 75c while gaming.

I've done some testing with my 600C case and its fan speed controller, but never really documented how it affected my previous 4790K build or my current 2700X build. This is an inspiration to do just that though. :toast:

This is a great idea!! wish I'd thought of that when I was running my Silverstone TJ07!!

That CPU power connector to your psu , tight fit?
I don't have a case with psu tunnel but I was unable to route this wire behind the motherboard with my focus plus psu.
That wire is only 650mm long, it should have been longer.

Not to mention these small cases don't give you a lot of room from the top of the mobo to the top of the case but I was able to run the wire behind the mobo and plug it in.
