Hi all,

Simple question here: what do I need to get a 4K 60 Hz signal with full dynamic range 8-bit colours and 4:4:4 chroma onto a TV with an Nvidia GPU?

Unfortunately, I sold my Radeon 6500 XT a while ago which did the above without problems. Ever since, I've been struggling. The integrated Intel UHD 750 can do all of it, except with a 4:2:0 chroma, and all my spare Nvidia GPUs want me to choose between 30 Hz and full dynamic range (30 Hz hurts my eyes after an hour or so), and 60 Hz with limited dynamic range and washed-out colours (it's just plain ugly).

I thought you only needed HDMI 2.0 for this, but I've got lots of spare GPUs, including a 1660 Ti which is HDMI 2.0 capable, and it still wouldn't work.

I'm posting this here because it's only Nvidia GPUs that I'm struggling to get this working with.

Cheers. :toast:

Well, the Bing AI co-pilot said this:

I hope this helps!
Thanks, but I've been through that. :(

My TV and cable are fine. It worked flawlessly with the Radeon 6500 XT - it's only that I did a sweep through my spare GPUs, and the Radeon got the axe (it was one of the more valuable ones). I thought I could do the same with Nvidia, but I apparently can't. :( The control centre won't let me select RGB colours with 60 Hz.

It's perhaps a setting from the display menu OSD that mismatches.

What needs such precise settings ? Maybe try the studio driver.

Just the Windows desktop / videos. 30 Hz is a bit blurry and makes my eyes hurt after a while, but the limited dynamic range with 60 Hz gives me washed-out colours and it's damn ugly.

Hm... like what?

Like on my BenQ... it has a switch to tell Auto, full or limited color range by exemple, it applies only to HDMI, i can't enable 10 bit while on HDMI (no i think it's perhaps bc Nvidia) but i can 4.2.0 or 4.4.4 or RGB full...

BTW, whatever i set in windows, the only working when on HDMI is limited.

I can't set full dynamic range or 4:4:4 RGB when on 60 Hz. The options don't even exist in the menu. They're only there on 30 Hz. Normally, I'd think either the TV or the cable is not capable, but it worked with the 6500 XT.

You try the studio driver ?

Have you tried a spare high quality cable? iirc 4:4:4 60Hz 4K is within the 2.0 bandwidth capabilities but only barely.

Did you create a custom resolution for the 6500XT? I think custom resolutions in Radeon Software are still bugged to 6-bit.

I'm using a pretty good Club3D cable that has worked well so far.

I've never used custom resolutions. Do you think creating one in the Nvidia control panel could be worth it?

Could be worth it, or messing around in CRU. Club3D makes the best stuff but I'd still double check with a new cable just in case. The only similar threads I can find (no reason why cannot get 4K60 4:4:4 on otherwise compatible hardware) all come back to a unexpected faulty but otherwise high quality cable.
