so i have my C disk on a SSD and its starting to show trouble.. i think
like suddenly cant acses files on it or when shutting down taking a long time also when booting up it gets stuck in windows loop
it also showed once a old NTFS reparing msdos looking thing when starting up tryng to fix a sector or something ( < this was in the past on same disk)
after fiew restarts it goes on while i also need to take out every other disk in the system ( sata devices)
but i got it working now i wonder for how long? time to replace it??? or a differend issue? disk is from 2018 i think

I suggest you visit the drive manufacturer's website to see if they have their own disk utility. It may provide additional diagnostic information that a general purpose application like CrystalDiskInfo may not display.

There's no justification to blindly trust any software utility now that actual negative symptoms have manifested.

The most important thing is that you have started a backup.

How full is the drive?

Hi,
I'd check connections first but ssd's tend to just die.

System image and reformat see if issue repeats on a clean install.
 
If i am not mistaken, you have been doing lots with your system recently inless this is a different setup.
If this is a normal SSD then maybe try a different sata cable or port

The drive doesn't even show how many writes it had in Crystal Disk Info.

Personally I buy SSD drives from reputable brands.
And these drives show important info in tools like Crystal Disk Info.
 
yea changing the sata port sometimes does the trick
i doubt its the liquid metal preventing my system to boot
 
I would get an 500GB or 1TB M.2 NVMe drive for the OS.
 
Very strange, well perhaps you should jsut replace it anyway, after all silent corruption or sudden total failure may be in the future despite the SMART data being OK.

Anyhow, that's the disk that is causing his problems.

Disk space shouldn't be a factor, it is not full. That said, we don't know all of his usage cases. Some programs create very large temporary files that might be filling up his drive while he is focused on using those apps.

Anyhow, m.2 NVMe SSDs are great. You want to put your operating system on your fastest drive.

LMFAO, for what's then it isn't overkill? well, that's me. I always tend to have fastest possible boot time, yes i'm not a fan of sleep mode lol
nvme vs sata for os boot is HUGE difference. well, for windows 10-11 at least.

I've bought a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB few months ago using for OS and few games on it.

Some run hotter than others.

You can look at TBW, Warranty period, speed, operating temperatures, Dram cache.

Personally I currently only use Samsung SSD drives, the oldest one from 2016 still in good shape.

Firmware update from manufacturer?

Typically your are paying for the controller and robustness of implementation (excess memory). You can always try the secondary fallback, warranty, if it is still in effect.

I once replaced a good hard drive because of a bad sata cable

Not just boot time but also swap file access. Get a NVMe drive for your primary drive with the speed your CPU/board supports at a reasonable price and enjoy the performance.

Major Windows 10 updates tend to stick around for awhile too as an old version you can potential roll back to. If your running out of space, and need to get a big chunk back, you can tell windows to get rid of the old version especially if you don't need it. Very helpful if you have a small OS drive and your satisfied the upgrade is working well.

Hell the 500gb perfect for os was only 70.us :eek:

Do you really need that much storage for the OS? My OS SSD partition is only 109GiB of which 57.9 GiB are free.

It's nice to not have to worry about problematic SATA data or power cables. I had to use dielectric grease on all my SATA cables because the humidity is so bad here it causes problems (i.e. disappearing SSD's and HDD's) if I don't.
