Hi all,

I just got new Seagate 250 Gb SATAII hard drive. Seagates have been usually pretty quiet. I can't say that this is noisy but it's noisier than other computer. What is the best and cheap way to reduce noise from hard disk? Or is there any? My case is Antec Sonata II.

Seagates do have a reputation for being quiet, especially the Barracudas but the my folks last two computers have been Packard Bell (NEC) both using Seagate drives and the noise is terrible. Even with accoustic management enabled.

Which reminds me, Possu, have you tried downloading SysTool from this site and enabling accoustic management? The performance impact is minimal and definately worth it.

Let us know how you get on. Mobo drivers can cause problems for ATI Tool to detect accoustic management, I know the Nvidia ones do so you might need to uninstall them to use it. Sometimes it doesn't apply the settings first time so if it tells you it failed give it a few more attempts.

I will tell W1zz about the Nvidia problem sometime soon if no one else has when I'm not so tired. Anyway, I won't be posting anymore tonight because it's gone 12 here in the UK and I've got to get up early tommorow!

Try ati tool version .23 it has acoustic management for hard disk drives. Note that version.24 does not. This is what I used for my hard drive. You just click settings on the bottom then from the drop down box you will see it. Place a check in the acoustic management box, click read then drag slider to either side if you want quiet or max performance then click write. Sometimes you have to tell it a couple times for it to work. Hope this helps!

Sorry I can't find where to download Ati tool version .23 unfortunately. Glad I have it saved on my hard drive and burned to a cd.

Have you got any Nvidia IDE drivers installed? If you do you they stop SysTool working with AAM so you have to uninstall them, change the setting and then reinstall them. Most modern drives are compatible.
