Ok as the title says ive been trying to set up a VPN on my machine so i can access it from a remote location but for the life of me a can not get it to work. All i want to do is set it up so i can access my files from another computer from where ever i may be.

What ive done so far:

1.I have forward the ports on my router 1723 in and out also added the ip address from the router to the machine in which i wish to access.

2. Ive set up a new incoming connection to this machine, but im not sure if i have done this correctly? I set it as my machine's name (or do i select Admin?) then i select "through the internet" Then i leave it as default, then press allow access.

3. Then i go to "set up a new connection or network" then go to "connect to a work place" then i select "use my internet connection" Then i type in my internet IP which is the one my provider gives me. Then i put in my username and password (if i set a password?)

4. Then i get an error code 800 every time.

What the heck am i doing wrong? ive been trying all day with no success at all, and its driving me nuts, can anyone please help me out here so i can get this to work?

Thanks in advance :toast:

Do you have to do it through a VPN? It can give you trouble at the worst of times tbh. If you're open to other solutions I'd use drop box but as to your 800 error is your router set to allow traffic for a VPN protocol? Remember SSL may need to be enabled too.

Following are the steps for configuring Incoming VPN Connection in Windows 7

First go to Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Change adapter settings.
Press Alt+F and select New Incoming connection
Put a check on who you’d like to give access to this computer or you can configure a new account by clicking on Add someone, after that click on Next.
Put a check mark on Through the Internet. Click on Next.
Select the protocols you want to enable for this connection. Click on Allow access.
Make a note of the Computer name as this will be used by the client to connect to this computer and after that Click on Close.

Following are the steps for configuring Outgoing VPN Connection in Windows 7

First go to Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Set up a new connection or network.
Select Connect to a workplace then click on Next.
Select Use my internet connection (VPN).
Type the IP address or computer name where you wish to connect and your connection name under the Destination name field.
Enter a User name and password that has been granted access to the host computer.
For getting connected through created VPN connection, you can either right-click on the Network icon in the system tray and select Network and Sharing Center or go to Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Center, and click on Connect to a network.
Now connect VPN Connection windows will appears.
