How to Speed up my computer

Hello, i recently bought a new computer and would like to OC and stuff like that, i have a DEll XPS with 5 fans in it, and i dont want to buy anything more as i already spent over 2000 dollars.

please let me know what i can do to get it to maximum efficiency and running speed

Is that an X800XT Platinum Editon?

You can overclock that beast of a card with ATITool of course, run the find max features for about 2 hors each. I cant help you with overclocking the P4, but ive heard they are pretty securely locked against an OC.
 
If it's a dell , you ain't gonna be able to overclock anything CPU/memory wise cause of the mobo.. u gonna hafta replace the entire thing.. or find a bios to unlock it, if it's possible... sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

the x800 is good to overclock.. use atitool to do that.
 
Wazzledoozle - doesn't the find max feature just stop when it finds the maximum speed it the card can run at?

Kind of, once it finds that the card is too far overlcocked by way of looking for errors in the spinning cube, it will keep streeing the card and knock the clock down more until it gets no more errors.
 
so what is the point in doing the find max things for two hours, when it automatically stops when finding the maxes through the system you descibed?

i have an X800 XT normal, not P.E. ive run ATI tool and ive used this thing called TweakXP which seems to be nice i guess, also im using 531mhz/531mhz right now, i didnt run it for a long time, tell me step by step how i should run it and which one i run first and then after how long should i check for errors? also, i reaallly dont wanna fuck anything up (like burn something out)...

It never stops, it keeps scanning for errors and will lower the core speed when it finds and error. SO its best to keep it running for 2 hours.

Ok....so......why is it i would have to replace the whole thing? (remember folks this thread is to help me!!!!) .......annndd...could u help me find a bios?...........basically im a nub in need of Help
 
well, basically, there are different things you can OC. The three things I know of that you can OC are your CPU, Memory, and gaphics card. When OCing graohics cards, you can usually do it no matter what, repending that it can handle what you're trying to OC it to ofcourse. However, when OCing CPU and memory, you need to have a compatible motherboard. As has been said, your Dell motherboard isn't compatable for OCing CPU and mem, so if you want to OC them you'd need a new motherboard. In some cases, you can use a BIOS to unlock the motherboard so that it will let you OC them, but sometimes this doesn't work, because there isn't a BIOS available. If you want to try finding a BIOS, you'd need to ask someone else, I don't know much about that.
If you're not comfortable with doing that, then I'd say just leave it as is, because you already have a very fast CPU and LOTS of RAM for a homeuse machine.

Now, when it comes to OCing your graphics card, you don't need a compatible motherboard, so you can just use ATITool to do it.

(btw, in your sig, you have "530mhzcore/530mhzmemory=1060mhz". Unless I'm deaply mistaken, they don't add up like that ;))

well, they don't :P

they're individual speeds for individual componants in the graphics card. That would be like adding up your RAM to your CPU.
 
No he was right, his ram runs at 1060 MHz because you double the clock speed. I dont know how GDDR3 works, but it is still DDR. You dont double the core though, but it appears he already knows that.
 
BIOS flashing

Whats flashing bios?!...and if i wanna make my X800 XT to X800 XTpe how do i do it?!?!

Why do you double the clock for the memory?

ok can u tell me what flashing bios does and why i under what circumstances i would do it for?


please provide a specific answer as its hard to keep going back and forth for days :p

The internal clock of ram runs at a given speed, such as 200 MHz. DDR ram has an external muliplier that doubles the clock cycles, hence DDR or Double Data Rate. Thats why old ram is just called SDR SDRAM, becuase it is single data rate.

Until TDR or QDR, we double to clock speed of ram on video cards because they all use DDR.
