hello everyone,i bought a used nitro (not nitro+) rx 470 8gb card and well.. it has issues

i installed the drivers but then i noticed something really weird in gpu-z, speccy and adapter properties in screen resolution -> advanced settings -> adapter

its in the link my (really uneducated, kinda hopeful) guess is that the bios was flashed for mining.

What i noticed (from left to right) : in first gpu-z pic bios version has that 001 part, but when i went to https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=AMD&m... the only bios is the one without the 001 part........oh and gpu and memory clocks are 0 mhz??

in speccy gpu clock is again 0, and the memory is shown at 48 mb..

and then in gpu-z on the right everything seems out of place

finally in the little properties tab under speccy there is really nothing.

this version of the card doesnt have the bios switch button

idk how to fix this,if someone can give me instructions or a link to them or something i'd be very grateful

1) Use ddu in safe mode and reinstall again drivers.
2) If no success ^^ find same bios and reflash it again and goto step 1.

i did step 1 2 times so i dont think its the drivers
do i need to have the drivers installed to properly flash the bios?
btw do you know if flashing the bios that is tagged for nitro+ rx 470 here on techpowerup will work on nitro rx 470? apparently the nitro card has the logo without leds while nitro+ has leds so im wondering if thats the only difference

looks like mining card with modified BIOS to me

so relfashing the original bios should work? do you know if i need to have drivers installed to do the flashing with atiflash

Nope.

try to play games to put 100% load on GPU, check the temps, voltage, clock (core/memory) using HWinfo/GPU shark/MSI afterburner
using fraps/afterburner to check the FPS and crosscheck with RX 470 benchmark on multiple sites (TPU/Toms/GN/AnandTech)

if its performing as intended, better just leave as it is.
but if you still want to flash the card then, I summon @eidairaman1 for you

@MVPete is this before or after you have installed the AMD drivers? because that is normal when your using windows drivers.

Tried to run the softest one i had,its called starsky and hutch and its a million years old,the game wouldnt even start i just got black screen, but could alt tab to desktop and shut down the game

both before and after, the only difference is speccy doesnt show anything, only that there is a gpu connected, and the adapter settings from the screen resolution -> advanced settings showed standard vga graphics adapter and then for total gpu memory 48mb and for dedicated, system and shared memory it showed n/a

i forgot one thing, msi afterburner isnt registering the card,i cant oc or anything, its not giving any readings on the card clocks, only temps which are around 40 degrees celsius

When miners flash there cards all there doing is modding the stock bios, so it should still pickup the card like normal, something else is happening here can you open up WinATIFlash and post a screenshot of the info shown there ?

yup,here it is

i might have found something.. i was looking around the internet and it turns out that different bios editors are used for rx 4xx and 5xx versions, and when i loaded the gpu bios from my rx 470 into a bios editor intended for rx 4xx series the timings were all weird and high numbers which as i understand is not normal, but then i loaded the bios into 5xx bios editor and the timings are normally displayed (1:1500, 1:2000 etc). does that mean the bios on the card is originally from rx 570 card flashed to this one?

To me it feels like your Card (rx 470 8gb card ) was Flashed to a RX 570 bios and then modded for mining
Flashing it Back to the Stock original bios is a good idea ( if you feel comfortable flashing Cards) and then installing latest drivers.
Any further problems we (TPU) can then explore further help.

cool, thanks :D i just have a few problems while doing this... my card is nitro(non +) rx 470 8gb model, and there is no bios for that card here on TPU or anywhere else i looked... i saw on antrak.tech that they have some roms but gpu-z says my gpu has micron memory in it.... idk how relevant is that... can i make my own rom?

I feel comfortable learning how to flash gpu bios, never done it before :D

Actually there might be, please take pictures of the white stickers on the back of the card and post them here.

I normally can find the correct bios but I will need certain info.

Also another point get a picture of gpu-z of the memory section and take the cart apart and take pictures of one of the ram chips to get the code off of it make sure it's clear.

okay lets one step at a time,is this what you meant for the gpu-z stuff?

it says Nitro RX470 8gb looking closely
so wouldn't just re-flashing the bios resolve the issue (as mentioned) ?

Some bios files were uploaded with a stock keeping unit number on them I have been helping a lot of people here find the proper bios for their cards.

I've also found some for people people's fake video cards too

Yes putting the correct stock bios back on would restore its proper functions, right now it's crippled because of a modified bios.
