I find the notion of adding fake noise in car cabins disconcerting. I get fake noise outside to alert pedestrians glued to their cell phones. But fake noise inside the car? No way! When I want to hear sounds inside my vehicle, I crank up the tunes.

You're not alone, my DRP4 makes some terrible resonance at around 900RPM. I never bothered to try other fans though. And one of the reasons is the freaking gap between towers is just 20mm.
But yeah, tl;dr I'm not buying BQ cooler again. It weren't cheap neither. For a fraction of a price increase, I could get a NH-D15.

I know everyone has different opinions and likes when it comes to these computer setups, but I can't for the life of me understand why the aesthetics of a computer case would matter. How often are you just staring at your computer tower? Do you need to stare at the case while you're using the mouse/keyboard/monitor to operate your computer?

I don't look at my tower. It's in a box, it's black and it sits off to the side. My monitors have my attention when I'm using my computer, not my tower.

Obviously, to each their own, but if the aesthetics of your tower is important to you....I guess you could be some kind of streamer that wants something flashy looking as people watch you do whatever it is you do. But if you're not, then I'm not sure what your need is for flashiness. I mean, do you showcase your tower in the living room window so everyone that passes by can see and enjoy?

Looks are subjective. Personally, I prefer a clean, minimalist style, that's why I tend to choose Be Quiet!

I've heard lots of great things about Noctua, but brown is a big no-no for me.


How so? I've never had any problem with them.

I should have finished writing my "userreview for the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 5" for the website hardwareluxx.de The promised thermal paste arrived too late.

Personally I dislike doing a bad job. That's why I left it as it. And for some reason the months are gone.
I'm someone who think about things. I want to do it better and I had no real idea about how to do it properly.

The initial question I had how the cooler will perform without disturbance from the case. I did not continue with the user review for various reasons.
It's not that bad. I run that box since I stopped writing on that user review without top fans or front fans. I think around 15th of april 2024 the computer is at it is.

Than I wanted to compare it with the full case and full fans.

The computer is quite low noise. There are no front fans as of now. Only one back Noctua fan. And the very quiet Powercolor 7800XT Hellhound.

For some reasons there is some sort of humming noise in certain rpm ranges of the air cooler from bequiet. (I'm talking about hte be-quiet cpu tower cooler)

When I press with my finger at that passive cooler on the mainboard some noise vanish at certain rpm ranges.

That air cooler has very annoying frequency for 4 different rpm speed. I tested that in uefi wiht setting the speed for any temperature to a fixed value.

I think the glass side panel block certain frequencies. I put the computer 1meter away from my ears. Usually audio for fans is measured in one meter distance.

A few days ago I thought about changing back to the noctua nh-d15 cooler or just completing the case.

I did not want to write something bad - so I left that hardwareluxx review without any further update. I do not want to write something when I do not have facts. That custom CPU AM5 socket could also cause issues. I should also check if a screw went a bit loose for the mainboard and such. I should also check every non visible screw from the asus mainboard.

If I have to choose between Noctua NH-D15 and the be quiet one. I take the noctua one.
I dislike that mounting system bequiet has.

i have to say looking at pic 4 it reminds me of my tower and setting up the tower on my cpu sucked. AMD made it to easy (which is good) with the wraith cooler

Way WAY back in the day,

1. Cases didn't come with air filters.​

2. Case fans ran at full speed.​

3. I had 2 dogs in the house spewing dog hairs and dander into the air.​

4. I had 3 other people, including 2 rugrats, shedding dander and running around, opening doors, and stirring up dust.​

5. I was searching for ET and the cure for cancer so my systems were running 24/7.​

Today,

1. All my cases have removable, washable air filters.​

2. Case fans are larger and run at slower speeds, and all intake comes through those filters.​

3. The dogs are in doggie heaven. Never had cats (the worst for dander).​

4. It is just me stirring up dust and opening up doors.​

5. I only run my computer 4 - 6 hours per day.​

Note everyone uses their computers differently and in different environments. No one is immune to dust. But everyone's dust problem is different.

Oh, and for the record, most house dust is not the same as dust flying around outside - which is tiny particles of ground up dirt, mixes with pollen and other junk. While some of the house dust is made up of dirt and pollen from the outdoors, the largest portion of house dust consists of dander - dead skin from animals (humans, dogs and cats and other furry and feathery critters). Some fibers from clothing and carpet/rugs are in there too.

The second biggest chunk of house dust is dust mites - microscopic critters that love to feed on all that dead skin. The more people and pets, the more dander floating around, and the more dust mites you have chowing down on it.

Then another major component of house dust is all that fecal matter those microscopic dust mites are "dumping" about.

All that "stuff" gets stirred up and tossed into the air every time a person or pet walks around. It then is drawn into our computers by the fans.

So, even if your house is environmentally controlled all year round (you keep your doors and windows closed), people and pets will create the dust for you.

I'm a bit conflicted on dust. I used to use a Corsair 280X case (I still have it in a wardrobe as a spare) with a glass front panel and dust filters. Everything in it ran hot, so I swapped it for a Kolink Citadel Mesh that has a mesh front panel with no filter on the front, so my PC components run cool, but they get dusty quicker.

Funny you should cite this issue with a "Corsair" case. I have no recent experience with Corsair cases - much in part because I have no desire to give them another chance after several issues with several of their cases a few years ago - with cooling being one of those issues.

I experienced the same issue with cooling as you did. It was not a glass front model so not the same model number. Not sure which now, but a mid tower with air filters.

I think they use (or used) lousy filter material. They effectively trapped the dust, but they blocked the air flow too. I had to crank up the fans until they sounded like jet engines just to get the CPU down to 50° at idle. I swapped that case out for a nice Fractal Design Define R4 and the same CPU hit nice idle temps of 25-27°C with the most excellent FD fans barely running silently. I really don't like fan noise so I was really pleased with that and highly recommend FD cases. We've done several builds with FD cases in the last few years and have been really happy with all.

When I see my idle temps sit above 30°C and my under-load temps hit and sit above 60°C for longer than a few seconds at a time, that's my cue to clean my filters. I think it was about 6 months ago the last time I had to clean them and just looking at my temps and through the side window now, I still don't need to clean them.

Me currently and 3 years no dust (well minimal as is no point even blowing it out.............however my forced air has a 16"x25"x5" MERV 11 to 13 (depending on sales and availability) that runs 24-7 so that probably helps.

Decent air coolers are cheap. Can get a beefier one than that for $60 bucks or less. Thermalright or Id-Cooling are pretty hard to beat price/perf.

I run all fans at max all the time on all systems. No filters on anything. I got an air-compressor and a long hose. Every fourth Sunday after church all systems get a dusting out. Been working fine for many years.

however my forced air has a 16"x25"x5" MERV 11 to 13 (depending on sales and availability) that runs 24-7 so that probably helps.

No doubt that helps. Mine uses 16x25x2 pleated and also MERV 11. But my fan cycles with the furnace. Running 24/7 probably does make a difference if you have several 2 and 4 legged critters shedding and running about. That said, regular floor and carpet vacuuming makes a difference too.

I had a wrath prism when I first assembled my pc, and hate to say it it has kind of grown on me. But I replaced it with a cooler I always wanted. While the prism was in the case I even sync-ed the gpu lights. Now everything is off and it does not bother me at all.

virtually 9 out of 10 rigs i build when i was still building for customers, wanted something with black/white for color, anx most one panel with (tinted) glass.
none of them any lights (outside one 13y old) or anything flashy, and none of them streamers.

the same thinking would mean no one should put nicer looking (and usually lighter/wider etc) wheels on their cars, because they arent racing on the track every day,
and they cant see them while driving?

so i guess we shouldnt care anymore about cleaning/painting cars/houses anymore, you know, as we dont see them from the outside much.

I didn't say I didn't care, I said I don't understand. Perhaps work on reading comprehension over trying to get one over on someone else.

Your comparison about cleaning/painting and so on is a different matter. That's something that's out in public and to me, I like keeping a nice, clean looking vehicle and keeping the outside of my home (as well as the inside) looking nice and clean.

My computer case doesn't impact anything (other than maybe cooling performance, to a degree). Regardless of how it looks, the hardware inside of it still functions as it should. Even if my tower was decked out in gold and had pictures of naked women on it, I'm not going to sit there and stare at my tower because no matter how hard I look at it the monitor screen is where all the action is happening and that's where my focus is.

That's why I can't understand why people feel they need a bright, flashy computer case. If you feel you need those things, by all means, go for it and do it. And if it matters to your small, closed off world at all, I wouldn't care if my case was beige instead of black.

I also don't understand how you came about to feel so slated about my initial post - it's like you took personal even though it wasn't directed at you. That's amazing.

Same here. My 50-quid Kolink Citadel Mesh case has much better cooling than the 3x more expensive Corsair that I had before (although with no air filter in the front, but everything can't be perfect, right?)

you can always put some mesh (insect) screen behind front panel and secure with tape/hot glue.
