Hi,

I wanted to ask a simple question, is there any benefit to using TS with 14900KF? Before I used TS for laptop, which made sense and helped a lot. Now with so strong PC CPU, I am wondering if there is any benefit, also given the fact that Intel modern CPUs already control their clocks and voltage fairly well. I've seen only a few benchmarks show results for underclocking or lowering power, but nothing very conclusive. For now I use TS just to monitor temps/power usage on my tray and to check limits (getting a lot of EDP Other blinking red on RING, is that normal?). Thanks for all the answers!

getting a lot of EDP Other blinking red on RING, is that normal?
This is normal if the current limits are not set high enough. Try setting Power Limit 4 to a value of 0, set IccMax for both the core and the cache to 511.75 and see if you get less RING throttling in Limit Reasons.

if there is any benefit
Most people with desktop computers do all of their adjustments in the BIOS. ThrottleStop is a good monitoring tool but if you have a full featured BIOS, you should be able to adjust your CPU in the BIOS. If you use Windows Defender, I would highly recommend checking the Windows Defender Boost box in the ThrottleStop Options window. That feature alone is worth always running ThrottleStop in the background.

Post some screenshots if you need any other recommendations.

Both Core and P Cache have IccMAx set to 511.75 already. Not sure how to change the Power Limit 4 to 0, but it looks already like it is. Defender Boost was turned on by default.

Not sure how to change the Power Limit 4
Power Limit 4 can be adjusted in the TPL window. It shows in that window and in the FIVR monitoring table that Power Limit 4 is set to 0 like it should be. Instead of 0, you can also try setting this to the max which should be 1023.

There could be another current limit that ThrottleStop does not have access to that might be causing EDP throttling issues. Some motherboards do this. Not sure why. Does Limit Reasons show any EDP OTHER in red under the RING column when running a test like Cinebench? What Cache Ratio does the FIVR monitoring table report when Cinebench testing?

Having the MSR PL1 power limit set to only 150W is going to prevent maximum performance. When running Cinebench you will likely see PL1 and PL2 lighting up red under the CORE column in Limit Reasons. Most people with desktop computers set the turbo power limits to the max, 4095, to prevent any unnecessary power limit throttling.

Turn on the Log File option on the main screen of ThrottleStop before you play a game or do any stress testing. That way you will have a record of your CPU performance and any throttling reasons when done.

I would not bother using or checking the Alarm box in the Options window. Intel CPUs do a great job of looking after themselves. If they ever get too hot, they will throttle. This logic is instantaneous compared to ThrottleStop checking the CPU temperature once every second.

how can I get taskbar to show triple digits
The system tray icon width is a fixed size. There is only enough room for two normal sized numbers. Triple digits would only work with a tiny font. ThrottleStop does not have this feature.

If you use Windows Defender, I would highly recommend checking the Windows Defender Boost box in the ThrottleStop Options window. That feature alone is worth always running ThrottleStop in the background.

Is this the reason you recommend the option Windows Defender Boost ?
By disabling Defender protection in real time avoids the issue?

Seems my i5-4690K is not affected by this issue.
PC booted, I let Counter Control run for 8h+ and the value was Normal 0x330.
