Another update is Fry's said at least two weeks before they get stock back. So much for ATI is not going to have availability problems!

I finally have an order in Tigerdirect has HIS and Visiontek cards in stock. $260 shipped, a little more than what I wanted to pay but at least I will have a card by Tuesday. I thought hard on getting the 8800 gt, but worried I could be waiting a month with no pc. Fry's has it in stock but with shipping and tax the gt would be $300.

well guys done everything I can think of and crossfire won't work for me listed my second card on ebay under seller name tomt740 anyone interested let me know. It was supposed to be here today but it says now tuesday. I think a gtx is for me since I cannot find a gt for sale at a reasonable price or really even a card I want period. Would just buy a 2900 xt 1 gig card but the 8800 gtx is cheaper and don't kid yourself these 3870 cards cannot compete with a 2900 xt 1GB ddr4 card when it's overclocked. I think it's the extra transistors and the more powerful 512bit bus and extra ram my 2900xt did 877/1197 so even overclocked the memory is slightly slower but it is faster. I had one before it died and the 3870 I have cannot touch it in real world games like crysis or in benching, but a gtx is faster still by a bit in AA/AF. what this has taught me is to be happy with what you have it time to quit the upgrade thing for me. Whatever i get i'm done tell atleast march or april of 08. looking back for shits and giggles my old 2900 xt 1gb clocked at 887/ddr 2394 did about 1500 points higher than my new 3870 clocked at 872/ddr2612 . The 3870 also had the advantage of newer driver i bet it would be even higher with 7.11 drivers. Still for about 180.00 less it is a good card and almost matches a 2900xt 512mb. Good luck with your set ups. I think i'm going to take a break from techpowerup this upgrade thing is fun but getting old.

You should get another 2900 1GB. There's now a bios editor that allows vGPU changes. :wink, wink, nudge, nudge: lol

u need to take a year off.. the whole thing is addictive and ultimately leads to nowhere.. have a rest from it then start again when u will get some real improvements from your upgrades..

i used to say if u aint getting at least a (real) 50% improvment it aint worth doing.. a year off is what u need.. its easy to get that 50% then..

na I have a ebay store I made 25.00 on my 3870 selling it so it's a win win the only thing I lost money on was my killed 2900xt 1 gb. i'm done upgrading my own system time to just sell now. This is my only hobby I'm just tired of it. I think a gtx is the best single card solution now if we could fast forward to say dec 14 and wait 4 to 7 more day for shipping then I would say 8800 gts 512mb but I want to play decent frame rate and i want to play now. the gtx i bought was 439.00 shipped plus two games COH and Lost Planet. I might sell the games to offset the cost some more should get 40.00 for both.

everywhere the prices are way too high. From the MSRP most sites have jacked up the price. Seriously pisses me off.

whats crazy is I had to make over 50+ dollars on ebay to clear 25.00 on the card myself. Ebay and paypal are some overcharging bastards.

very little point in waiting for the 8800gts.. the gt fake torpedo ati launch backlog will roll back into the gts launch.. add at least two months before they will be readily available..

but ati were supposed to have 250,000 38xx cards ready for launch.. quite clearly they dont .. they are holding back for some reason.. i think its a driver issue and conected to the cards poor AA performance in crysis..

prices are bound to rise when the world wants something and it aint there in enough numbers..

i think the ati cards will appear in numbers soon.. the nvidia cards will not..

wow I kinda thought you were a nice guy but now I 'm sure your not. :wtf: If I wanted to be on the top I would have bought two 8800 ultras or two 2900 xt 1 gb ddr4 and ran the together. I believe I have helped you several times and after that comment I won't.

What would be funny is me ever needing help from someone like you. I may have spent 600.00 on 2 cards but at least I didn't whine about leaving here because I could not afford it anymore.
Seems like every time we have spoke you take it wrong. What I was trying to say was you don't have to leave techpowerup just stop upgrading every week. Now stop crying trt740 you sound weak when you cry:laugh:

In case anyone is wondering I just got 1 8800 gt to replace 2 8800gts 640 super clocked, not 2

My card is coming in the 6th day of December, at least hopefully. I'm SERIOUSLY going to flip if they post a message about ''availability problems''. :D
