Image retention on Samsung 931BW LCD screen [SOLVED].

Just noticed when I was gaming I had a few lines going across the top of my screen.
I took a closer look and could see it is the image of the firefox browser.
Is there any way to remove this?

I thought only plasmas get burn in.:wtf:

No also LCDs can suffer from it. Seeing yours is almost four years old... do you leave FF on for days or what :P Seriously tho, its kinda hard to believe that a four year old LCD suffers from burning in, maybe a bad batch, or you really should log off the internet from time to time.

Getting entirely rid of it isn't possible. Create an all-white picture, and let that display on the... display for quite some time. It can weaken the effects.

Turn off your monitor and take out the power for a day or two, that will help a bit.

The model I have I think is a bad batch.
There is talk about a series of them on youtube which had a ghosting sort of effect due to their "enhancement" called RTA.

The screen is a 5ms screen but RTA is supposed to be some sort of ms booster which makes it look like 2ms but only makes it worse.
When there is a significant amount of HDR in game you will see ghosting on this monitor.

The last couple of days I have left the browser on but I don't leave it on all day....just most of the time it's on the browser.

I place a white screen on just before I posted this message.
The image has weakened but I can still see the browser line but it's only slightly obvious close to the left and right of the screen. :/

Searched around te net some more and come across a web page which suggests what my monitor has is LCD Image Retention where the crystals remember the image which in most cases can be corrected.

I followed instructions of creating one black image and one white image, placing them in a folder to create a screen saver which alternates between the two.

Left it over night, had a little look this morning and it appears the image retention is gone.
Will update if it is all BS.

Well it went away...then it came back again!

It appears if I leave the browser on for a certain period of time now, it will retain some lines of the top of the browser.

As a test I placed the browser down further than usual and found the lines there, it didn't take long.

I think there maybe something wrong with the panel.

But at least I can remove the lines completely as long as I have the monitor to set to the black and white screen saver.

But still pretty stink.

my 6 year old LCD doesnt even do that?!

try this: http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
it say stuck pixels but it has removd burn in from other user's experiances and will fix plasmas too!

Yeah it only recently started happening.
I don't know what could be the cause.

did you try that fix?

Not yet.
I'll post when I have.

Update:-
The jscreefix worked.

There is no browser lines at the top of the screen now.
I left it on for an hour.

Just trying to figure out what I have been doing which is different.
Which maybe causing the image retention.

Only thing I can think of is reinstalling drivers for the monitor.
When I did that the monitor became rather bright and I have not bothered to go back to the original setting I had it at before.

I'll keep an eye on the monitor to see if it comes back and when it comes back so I can give an update and possible permanent solution without having to replace the whole monitor.

It's a shame the monitor has started to do this because I was thinking of getting two since it appears I need the space now I am using the PC as a DAW.

excellent glad it worked for you :)
it says you can run it as a screen saver or something to reduce burn in all the time

Well it came back again the next day after surfing the web for a hour and a bit.

But I think I have isolated the issue.
I think it's the setting the screen was at.
The brightness was right up to 100 and contrast at 85.

When I first bought this monitor the first thing I noticed was it's brightness.
It was so bright it made me squint and the color of the images had a very pinkish tinge to them.
This was before I adjusted any settings and had gone from a 17" CRT.

I adjusted them immediately and left the settings the same way until a couple of months ago when I was bored and decided to mess around with the setting again.

So a couple of days ago I decided to mess around with the settings again and it seems to have seriously reduce the image retention on the screen.
So it looks like I will have to keep on playing a bout with the settings till I find one which does not cause this issue.

Still strange though as I don't know what settings i could have possibly changed to get this issue.
