You mean like basic map editor where you basically stack elements together to form a meaningful level?

- Portal
- Re-Volt
- Crashday
- 4D Sports Racing (Stunts)
- Trackmania series
- Infinifactory
- Age of Empires (not sure about Age of Mythology)
- Starcraft
- Red Alert 1

I had tons of fun creating really detailed levels with most of these games. Editors are easy to pick up, but they require quite some work to make things professional looking.

Crashday was particularly good. If you remember Stunts game, Crashday is exactly like that, but in modern 3D with tons more elements. I've created huge themed tracks for this game from rally stages to cargo ports to suburbs and crazy super long straights where Ai always lost it (kind of a bug that I used it as a feature to make long distance drag races interesting) and it created insane drag races with absolutely mind blowing crashes. And you're not restricted to track elements only, you can also place tons of debris and props to make tracks more realistic and challenging. Like railings, bumps, trees, stacked pipes, digged construction holes etc. It's really sad that racing games don't provide track editors anymore...

Oh, these are games..No he needs a 2D program that is Used to make game levels "maps" (as I understand it). Like what the creators of Mario Brother would have used to make they're level's, or what the creators of any of todays current indie platformers would have used(not a built in game level editor). sorry i wasnt more clear, I myself didnt know until i suggested the list above, and he told me that those were games.

Well, there is no universal "map editor". If that's the case, we're talking very specific tools for game making. The above mapeditor or for example Clickteam Fusion that I work with. These are game design programs where you have to make everything from scratch...

Yeah, i knnow, he is getting into game design , apparently he loves it, and I am MORE than happy to foster that growth, seeing as how its hard enough to get kids into Positive activities , im happy hes chosen game design , and Not something less scrupulous for passing his time. He tells me this is the field he would like to enter as an adult.

I ll speak to Him about the "clickteam Fusion" , it looks like something that is a Good fit for Him, since he can try it for free, and then if it suites him, we can get the paid version after some time (just to make sure Im not thowing my money @ a passing fancy).

Thanks to You BOTH.

Actually, the free version is rubbish. I thought of using it at first, but you can only compile HTML5 games with it, no EXE binaries. And that is crap. So I just bought a real deal. Itw as around 80€ so it's not that horribly expensive. Didn't go with the Developer version though, that one is almost 300€ and that is too much for my hobby needs.
