Hey guys, I've been reading a little bit about new technology that allows us to play games in 3D with special glasses and the like...

I've heard a bunch of terms like these: IZ3D, HD3D, Stereo 3D, DDD and a bunch of other terms which I do not understand... can you shed some light for me ???

I've also heard of new samsung monitors which convert 2D content into 3D content (even old games like old call of duty games for say...)

So I'd like someone to update my info about this, so that I would know what are my options for 3D gaming, and what I need to be able to play it pls

Your only real options for 3d gaming that I know of is IZ3D which works with AMD or Nvidia which uses polarized glasses. I haven't used this option so I can't say too much about it.

Your other option is Nvidia's 3d vision which uses stereoscopic 3d. This is the real deal. It looks great for the most part, supports a ton of games, and is very customizable. The downside here is that you need a Nvidia card, Nvidia 3d vision glasses, and a 120hz monitor.

It doesn't matter what type of 3D is offered, the brain hates it. Virtually everyone can't watch 3D for more than 20 minutes without being subjected to serious eye strain and/or headaches. Moreover, your sense of depth is distorted for several minutes after you stop viewing 3D content.

It's a gimmick so they have an excuse to sell you a brand new 3D monitor/TV to replace that display you just replaced three years ago. You'll use it once or twice and then completely forgetabout it. It is the next smell-o-vision. Not worth it.

Tell me that after you've gamed with stereoscopic 3d like Nvidia's 3d vision. I can game for a couple of hours or so with no problem. It seems like most people that have tried 3d vision for more than a few minutes seem to love it, myself included.

:D

with the sys spec as listed ALL you need is a 3d capable moniter/tv and its version of glasses you then get hold of IZ3ds software and use it simples its compatible with over 500 games i hear, not got. Their is a guide done by AMD showing it can be setup in minutes :D

ps the guys got 2x6950s and you fanboys reckon he needs an nvidia card:roll:
so by your reckoning he needs to spend heavy heavy doe on nvidia and nvidia dont do a screen you could also stick a sky3d box on

Supposedly there will be a separate 11.7 driver for 3d. How well it's going to work nobody knows yet. In my opinion the current implementation of 3D is the same gimmicky 3D technology that has existed since the 1950's. It's nothing spectacular.

ace avatar erocker, damn near pissed myself at the hair.
have you tried any 3d sys lately, i agree in part with what your saying but when a games been made with 3d in mind they can ease some of the strain, i havent got it myself, a mates got an nvidia setup and it does make dirt3 a bit more fun dude, crysis2 wasnt bad on it either the depths where much better in them games and they gave less eyestrain.

I agree with you on the polarized crap like IZ3D. Have you tried stereoscopic 3d?

If you have an AMD card the best option is the new Samsung SA950 or SA750 series. It comes with glasses and the preferred tri-def(DDD) software comes free.

I was sceptical about the 3D, was more interested in 120Hz but after testing with a game that was built with 3D in development, it looks very 3D and very cool.

I'm not having any headaches or negative affects from it at all.

3D is still a new tech and not fully supported but when its done right it does look fantastic. The success rate is hit and miss with games, some look fantastic some look average and some dont work at all, but from what i've seen 3D gaming is the future and will be standard kit for gamers in another year or 2.

Even without the 3D, 120Hz will be standard kit for gamers very soon so if you're interested i say go for it. 120Hz alone is worth it, and the 3D function gives you another cool feature to play with. Just dont expect all your games to work perfect in 3D mode just yet.
