Installed new case fan, now computer wont turn on

I just touch the outside of the case or anything metallic before opening a PC, of course also do it barefoot.

I'm barefoot, but on carpet... What should I connect the ESD to when I'm working?

Ready to go...

Can you connect it to the outside of the case whilst the PC is plugged into the mains but the xocket is turned off? I wouldn't recommend plugging it into a plug socket

Also before you tear everything out, just unplug everything except the CPU, GPU and a stick of RAM, see if it boots, so extra drives, fans, hubs etc just the barebones essentials

Righty o me mucker

There's very little chance you fried your cpu by static by just plugging a fan into a fan header. Check/replug all the power cables from the psu to mobo and check connections of your hd/ssds.

Ive unplugged everything I think. Still no joy.flashing CPU light but slowly now.

Try breadboarding it, can’t imagine you caused any damage to other components if you were only working with the fan hub

I'm this far...

Going to power up now... Fingers crossed...

FUCKING YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MM!M

Now, do I just assemble it and plug in everything? Including the fan from hell?

Can anyone reply? I'm scared shitless of doing something I regret.

Yes go ahead, just take your time, be cautious but fingers crossed all goes well, sometimes these things "just happen" with computers and sometimes you can't find an apparent reason why, been there a few times myself. Keeps us posted.

Didn't finish plugging everything back in. Got a ribbon cable from rear fan caught in the backplate, but didn't notice until I'd done up all the motherboard screws. Knew at that point it was time to put it down before Mr Angry got released.

Call it a night, start a fresh in the morning mate

Where are you from in the UK?

Thanks to everyone who helped me out, appreciate it greatly.

Gloucestershire

That's a lovely offer but along with anger management problems, I suffer from anxiety and tend to distrust everyone due to past events. I'm a weird one and that's just the start. I'll get it done in the end, I built it the first time so I'll get over this and sort it tomorrow.

Hi,
MSI board just threw a fit.
Think asrock next go around

Switch to decaf.

Hello
It actually works now. Yay!
Asrock is ''The One'' is it?

I get angrier on decaf cause its pointless coffee.
Grrr.
Genuinely, this is calm me compared to rip doors off hinges me. I'm reformed from 3 years ago.

In theory yes, but i have never saw that happen. Veteran pc builders don't use ESD straps.
I'm 100% n00b, not veteran. I wasn't working in an ideal environment either. Well theory or not, I shat myself when I had a flashing mobo light on. We all have to learn and start somewhere. I'm using an esd strap because its a pretty blue, like my eyes. :D :p

Nope, not really.

I've been building PCs since 1994, professionally full-time since 2001 and having dealt with BIOS quirks, faults, repairs, and issues for somewhere between 5000-8000 builds. I can safely say that Asrock, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, are all just as screwy as each other. That's not just my opinion - you don't have to dig very far to see full-time tech journalists and reviewers all making some kind of complaint about a board or BIOS on their twitter feeds or their youtube channels from just about any vendor too.

My current assessment of the motherboard market is that Asrock are the weirdest boards at the flagship/HEDT end and Asus are the nastiest boards at the cheap entry-level end of the spectrum. In the middle you just have to pick a mainstream board that sells in such large quantities that the manufacturer can't afford to screw up the BIOS for long or change to a fixed hardware revision.

You can even drill down to specific chipsets. MSI X570 boards were rock solid.
