does this cpu have alot overheating problems is it because people use the stock fan to keep it cool?

The stock cooler is designed to keep the processor within thermal limits at stock speeds/turbo speeds. If any overheating is happening with the stock cooler, either the thermal contact is poor, thermal paste is dried up/non-existant, or you live in particular harsh hot areas of civilization.

Stock coolers are not designed to overclock with. Beyond that, there should be no overheating problems unless overclocking or living in the middle of the sahara desert.

They run hot under stock cooling, but Intel isn't worried about them running at this heat. They thermal throttle very well and below failure temps. 100C is the cutoff point for these CPU's to run before throttling. While that's too hot for many, I've yet to see any fail because of stock cooling in the years Haswell has been out. I've built dozens of systems with the K-series CPUs. I do like to recommend an aftermarket cooling solution as I don't prefer to run my CPU's near the thermal throttle limit constantly.

My 4770k stock with stock cooling would hit thermal throttle temps in summer in my old place. I slapped a Noctua U14S and said goodbye to those kinds of temps though!

Your question is kinda vague though, what brought you to ask this in a new thread? You should reframe your thread title to match your inquiry.

I wouldn't worry much about it in all honestly...until you decide to overclock...then you absolutely should buy a better cooling solution and consider buying the Intel Performance Tuning Plan if available (otherwise you void your warranty when you OC).

I think part of the "overheating" issues are that people don't understand the thermal characteristics of the CPU. Many assume 80°C is overheating, but with these CPUs it is not. They are designed to run up to 100°C. And the stock cooler will let the CPU get up near 100°C to keep the fan quiet.

That's what I usually quote, it's a very acceptable cooler for the job. You could even go with a 92mm fan/size cooler for a smaller system. Don't just focus on the CPU cooler...because a good cooler isn't going to do you much if you're ambeint temps are too high or your case airflow sucks or isn't up to snuff, or your wiring blocks airflow. There are many aspects to look at...and simply doing some cable management to clear the impeded airflow around your fans could make a difference to not needing a cooler upgrade.

Look at the bigger picture when discussing temps.

A few years yes, more than likely 3 or 4 if not longer, provided the gaming landscape doesn't change much. If anything processors are becoming less important. People still on Sandybridge are still laughing when playing AAA titles.

Fallout 4, well, you might be waiting some time for that one to come out.

Honnestly i don't know what to say, i've had no temperature issues since i bought this cpu (~ dec. 14), eventhough i'm overclocking it @ 4,4Ghz

I'm using a fairly good aftermarket cooler paired with a single noctua NH-12U (pull mode). Room temp is around 20°C / 70°F

It's been running BOINC tasks on the background every day (40% CPU time on all available cores), and i've had nothing to complain about so far :

Theoretically IVy and Haswell have some temp issues... but not, stock cooler is like a complement that comes with the processor, with crapy pre-applied thermal compund,

If you want to keep your temps down use an aftermarket cooling solution, a
also wheater may affect, as rcoon said, living in the middle of shahara may be a punishment for a stock cooler and processor,

Correct a intel i7 is a pretty future proof processor dude, i have a 1st one in the office still working hard!

the other cpu i was looking at i wont think will last for 3 years but this one seems to will most games requires a amd 4.0 and i was looking at the 4.4 but with this one is much better so im sure i be able to play all new games for the next few years with the i7. i want to be able to play fallout 4 and the new elder scrolls game when they do come out lol but who knows what the system requirements will be by then

i5 can easyly handle things... "K" version or unlucked i5 will be another futurue proof option,

you will not need to upgrade, i have couple of frineds gaming on a second generation of i5's with and without overclock... with out problems, i5 processors are pretty strong dont worry, here in TPU are several members using them ...

The only thing the i7 4790K offers over the i5 4690K is hyperthreading. I've got both, and for gaming they both perform the same when clocked the same. And there is no reason the 4690K can't easily match the 4790K's stock clocks on stock voltages.

I feel like for those of us will 4670ks, 4770ks, 4690ks and 4790k shouldn't need to upgrade for a long time. Next best upgrade is haswell e and that's not practical for gaming. We just gotta keep up with the GPU race
