It's actually a pretty good deal. Especially for anyone looking to kick their HDDs to the curb.

Nope. People get so wrapped up in benchmark and marketing crap, they miss how something works in practical application...which is fine.
It's an SSD. Even one of the slower SSDs is much better than the alternative. And I KNOW I'm not missing anything.

But in a previous post you stated it cannot sustain 1GBps write. That is benchmark and rated speed, not real world. Now you are saying real world numbers are more important.

I just can't trust Intel drives. They brick once they get one bad block. Its stupid. They get one bad block, it drops to read only for ONE more power on cycle and then its done. It won't power on and you can't recover the data.

But the drives have already exceeded the endurance level by hundreds of TB writes. From the article - "The last time we checked in, the SSDs had just passed the 600TB mark. " That is a lot of write. More writes than any of us would ever do on a client machine before it gets replaced.

I have been using my Samsung 850 EVO 1TB as a boot drive for about a year now. I have written less than 20TBs to it. It is rated for 150TB writes. At this rate, it will go another 7 years? Pretty sure the drive will be replaced by then.

People all get riled up by write endurance but in reality few people will ever hit it.

I bought it to be used either as the boot or data drive for my laptop as I put in a 1tb ssd in it already. The reviews look good enough for me. Don’t expect it to beat a Samsung 970 evo in benchmark, but if you use it for normal usage it should be good enough. It is NVMe so it should be faster than any SATA3 6g 2.5” drive.

Real world, it will not maintain 1GBps is what I said, and I'm repeating that above and agreeing with others.

Sustained writes are an important factor to consider especially if you're using a write intensive application & as with TLC (wrt MLC) the QLC variety also slows down as you continue writing data to the drive! That doesn't mean the QLC drive is bad, just that you see performance degradation consistently if you're writing heavily to the drive. That's just how NAND works.

Uh, what common applications would require sustained write like that? Not the type of applications most users would use, such as web browsing, video, MS Office, or even software development. For game loading, it is mostly read. So this drive is fine for most users. For video rendering, if I am not mistaken, the rendering is done in memory, and then transfer to disk for writes. But not many people do heavy video rendering anyway. This sustained writes is good for benchmarking. I don't see people using applications that write hundreds of MBs to the disk continuously.

Even for database which has heavy write operations, it should have more smaller writes. And if you buy a QLC drive for database, then I don't know what to say...

Yeah its the house brand, the X2 version is available on amazon but unfortunately the X4 isn't sold online and the X4 is a much better value. The warranty is 3 years, I believe you take the drive to the store and they replace it. Thats what they told me for the 120GB SATA I bought from them. I came close to buying this but ended up buying a new 970 Pro 512 for $130 off eBay. Just wanted to be 100% sure of reliability for my OS but might get one of these Inland/Phison E12s as a secondary drive in the future. It's nice that they are about 10 minutes away from me.
