Intel today surprised us with the reveal of its new high-performance gaming graphics brand, Intel Arc. Competing with the AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce brands, Arc enables Intel to take a stab at the gaming graphics market that's been a duopoly for the past 2 decades; and the company doesn't intend to only make low-cost e-sports chips. As if a statement of intent, the company revealed the codenamed of the first three generations of Arc: "Battlemage," "Celestial," and "Druid."

Of these "Battlemage" is likely the fancy new codename for the Xe HPG graphics architecture, which has been implemented in a working prototype referred to as the DG2, and which Intel is now referring to as "Alchemist." Intel revealed that "Battlemage" is being designed to meet DirectX 12 Ultimate requirements, which means it will support hardware-accelerated real-time raytracing; mesh shaders, sampler feedback, and variable-rate shading. Intel also announced that the chips will feature an AI-accelerated supersampling feature. This will rival NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Intel announced that the first consumer products based on the "Alchemist" silicon will release in the first quarter of 2022, the company will put out more specifics throughout 2021, in the run-up to this launch.

Maybe we will actually see this card somewhere in 2050, when they stop just teasing it.

Magic could be the only resort left for them to deliver a competitive GPU in time...

Wouldn't technically Alchemist be the first? since its not out yet?
So, Alchemist, Battlemage and Celestial are technically the first three.

since it’ll use AI, it’ll be competing against DLSS. Lowly FSR isn’t even in the same tier.

This card will launch with Alder Lake (no way that complex mess is launching anytime this year.)

Yay! New brands and codenames, exactly what we need!!!

I wouldn’t mind an Intel GPU. I don’t game, and their Linux OpenCL support is enabled in one simple command in terminal. They just need a real GPU now and it might just do what I need.

likewise they are not in the same tier as FSR.....come on man, understand what you are talking about before running your mouth

Intel needs to up their damn game and release a dGPU to the public already.
They've been talking about doing it and bombarding us all with marketing since like 2016. I remember being shown Destiny 2 running on the consumer card at a trade show in 2017, and everyone thought the desktop cards would be out that year. LOL.

Intel, please listen carefully because this is an important PSA:

That is all, thank you.

Is each GPU series going to get three to four years of pre introduction, crack on already.
Soo batlemage, are they trying to stir younger loins with that name or GOT fan's?!.

With this much teasing it's a wonder Intel doesn't have an OF account

If someone make arrangement with all teasers of Intel's new dGPU from last 5+ years will got first place in Guinness book before Intel to succeed to manufacturing and start it sales. The misery weak "product" with onboard DDR4 chips for VRAM not counting.

Nvidia: GA102, Ampere
AMD: Navi 21, RDNA2
Intel: Xe, DG2, ARC, Alchemist

All current and future generation chips for AMD, Intel, and Nvidia fabbed by TSMC. If you thought today's market is bad, wait until 2022.

Battlemage

sold

lol

Competition is good, with prices being what they are right now in this duopoly a third player is exactly what we need.

Yes. With Intel known far and wide for price relief for consumers.

Most certainly, after all FSR is in the same tier of Lanczos... Personally I'm curious to see what exactly Intel is working on.

I still dont understand what Im reading. I thought it was just because I was playing with my dog and not paying enough attention.

So intel is making 3 architectures named "Battlemage," "Celestial," and "Druid"? that are part of the "ARC" family? With the first silicon of the "Battlemage" arc,arc being named "Alchemist"?

Can anyone clarify wtf im supposed to be looking at?
