Intel Confirms "Core i-" Getting Replaced by "Core Ultra" For Upcoming Meteor Lake Processors

intel is really suffering sales wise, I guess they need to tell consumers to start buying again. i3 now Ultra 3 though ?

3,5,7,9 is definitely easier

How is Max/Ultra more easier to understand than numbers?

Wait.

Base/Pro/Max/Ultra is easy to understand?!

Y'all are forgetting Intel laptops, in the past few years, have had EIGHT letter modifiers (H, HX, G1, G4, G7, P, U). The "i3/i5/7/i9" is hardly the part that needs changing, lmao.

Apple's M1 / M1 Pro / M1 Max / M1 Ultra is infinitely simpler than this "Only at Intel" mess.

  • Intel Pentium
  • Intel Celeron
  • Intel Core i3 H
  • Intel Core i3 U
  • Intel Core i3 G1
  • Intel Core i3 G4
  • Intel Core i3 P
  • Intel Core i5 G1
  • Intel Core i5 G4
  • Intel Core i5 G7
  • Intel Core i5 P
  • Intel Core i5 H
  • Intel Core i5 HX
  • Intel Core i5 U
  • Intel Core i7 H
  • Intel Core i7 HX
  • Intel Core i7 G7
  • Intel Core i7 P
  • Intel Core i7 U
  • Intel Core i9 H
  • Intel Core i9 HX

A recent (2019+) Intel laptop might have any one of these. Intel has had trash laptop naming for a long time. But, I don't think this solves any of their important problems...

i want to see how ultra those Core Ultra Pentium and Core Ultra Celeron going to be haha

Intel, finally, retired the Pentium and Celeron brands earlier this year.

"Core Ultra" doesn't even have a good ring to it when you add the part names.
I'd blame the marketing team, but clearly they have all been round up and shot over @ Intel.

not so bothered about the name change but i admit its a weird one.

If intel wants "ultra" intel gets ultra. Hope they don't end up rebranding intel to Ultra-tel - that would be some next level of ball-sack crushing bafflement

New marketing jingle; “Ultra inside” ding dong

Eh, it's not a huge change.

So you call it a Core u3/u5/u7/u9 instead of Core i3/i5/i7/i9 then. Business as usual.

eww that looks even more weird like mobile parts. The idea is replacing "i" without any abbreviations but to "core Ultra"..... eg, core ultra 5. Anyway i haven't got a problem with any of it... as long as ML kicks ass in performance/efficiency/etc i'll even take one if its called "eight juicy ultra cores coming to a PC near you.com"

Why don't they drop the generational numbers instead? 13900K sounds stupid enough already. God, I miss the days of the Pentium II!

I am not against the new naming but this is a scam to make every one upgrade so they don't feel they are on old naming old CPUs, like before core 2 due to i7 , BUT the i7 was a great naming because they changed it completely CPU had much new technology added so new naming was justified.
lol
core ultra 5
core extreme 7
core insane 9

Not good enough. I want the Kore Brütal 10 OOMM (Out Of My Mind) Edition! :rockout:

A fresh approach can't always be a bad thing providing we're not being duped into buying something spec-misrepresented (now that would be a scam).

Do people really get a boner over the supposed sexiness of "ultra", "extreme" or "insane"? I don't believe i've ever been sold on branding schemes in any given product field... not even remotely enthralled at the possibilities.

Marketing people at Intel seem to think so. I think so too, to be honest. Maybe not us, technical folks, but common gamers, definitely.

thats crazy. But i guess it makes sense considering the big boys pay a boat load of cash for logos/brands/tagline/etc well-rehearsed marketing campaigns. I wonder how much these affiliated marketing psychologists earn from these Billion-dollar companies... i've got loads of boner-sexiness tag lines to sell if they'll have me.

Worst idea they've ever had

Not even a single X in it. Meh, weak :ohwell: The umlaut though does add a nice touch

Sorry, I guess you're right, the Kore Brütal 10X Plus OOMM Edition will be much better! :D

It's the perfect time for AMD to one up Intel with the Ryzen x4ad, x8bd, x12cd, x16de, x32dd

3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th fastest ?
3rd seems best.
Don't underestimate people logic. :D

If intel Really wanted better marketing just call it a Pentium X or something. Or come up with a cooler name Core Ultra really? Ryzen is a cool name. Maybe call them SuperNova or Jaguars.

Intel lacks cool names it seems.

Not surprising, considering that the new logo that they adopted a cople years ago isn't even half as creative as the old one was. At least I'm not impressed by a bland blue square. The round "Intel inside" logo looked way happier and more confident. The "Core i" name is the next addition to my list of things to miss forever.

Ryzen is a cool name.

lol, at its induction I had to picture a raisin just to remember the name initially... a "wow factor" contaminant. But no denying the logo/design with that firey ring caught on quite quickly. Cool design!
