Intel Confirms that Arc Graphics Will Not Feature Cryptocurrency Mining Lock

Seriously, when is Arc actually launching? Intel has already missed the two most lucrative/profitable dGPU years in the history of computer graphics. "Failure to execute" is such an understatement that it barely qualifies as an accurate description....

Intel's been talking about things Xe/Arc will do for five years now and almost everything they have ever said has become irrelevant because the card never came to market during the lifecycle of those things/topics. I remember Intel promising competitive framerates and solid drivers for their DG2 card ready for Destiny 2's launch in 2017, followed by imminent Xe DG2 launch hype at E3 the following January. That game came and went and all of the hype Intel spun for that was meaningless because we didn't get DG2 then and we still don't have a DG2 today. People have mostly moved on from playing Destiny 2 at this point, and games cycles have moved on half a dozen times since then!

Until there's a released-to-retail dGPU from Intel that normal people can buy, Intel needs to shut the f*ck up and get on with releasing the damn thing, otherwise they're just doing what they've always done. At the moment, despite all the hype, Xe/Arc is still pretty close in product lifecycle to where Larabree was when it was cancelled 20+ years ago.

I doubt Xe/Arc will be cancelled at this point because IGPs are more relevant now than ever, and their graphics tech was built to be scaled up to larger products but the DG1 card launch to select OEMs only with minimal compatibiliy outside niche prebuilts and video encoding builds doesn't exactly inspire confidence in Intel producing a real GPU competitor against AMD or Nvidia.

no, if it weren't for LHR i wouldn't have my card. Simple as that
LHR doesn't stop miners at all.

LHR only stops ETH mining, but LHR cards can mine at 70% of full speed and there is nothing to stop miners from mining other coins. The current mining default for an LHR card is to split mine 70% Etherium and 30% Ravencoin or ERGO.

Miners will pay a small premium for non-LHR cards but as you can get 90% or more of the mining revenue from LHR as you can from an older (discontinued) pre-LHR card, it's practically a non-issue now that only comes up when troubleshooting rigs for new miners who don't know why their card is 30% short on ETH hashrates.

At launch they could mine 0% of ETH or whatever the hell it was, prices were much lower. Helps people get one. Period.

I do not want to be a damp squib but Intel will probably launch their card just as the Crypto market crashes and the market is flooded by second hand Nvidia and AMD cards.

If they launched this now they would gain massive gaming share in the market at a good price. I see this is as a massive missed opportunity!

For the last time, AMD does not make video cards, neither does Nvidia. All their GPUs go the AIBs which them might sell them to miners but AMD does not have a say in that.
They have contracts with their AIB partners, it's still their fault if they don't include clauses to make sure that their intended customers, video game players, can actually receive at least a decent percentage of their AIB cards.
Don't look at Steam Charts for any sensible conclusions on gaming related market share. Its a complete and utter mess, with lots of ancient data mixed with tons of non-gaming oriented systems.
You just need to look at the data in relative terms, the mix-up between gaming/non-gaming systems and old data shouldn't really prevent you from noticing how the RTX 3000 series is slowly climbing up the chart, while the RX 6000 has barely blipped this month near the end of the default list with the RX 6700 XT. Conversely AMD is doing very well in the CPU side of the Steam chart with their overall 30%, which seems to reflect accurately market trends.
Well lhr gpus already failed in the sense that now miners can be using them for full mining hashrate using 2 or more algos, this stupid nvidia act blocking how we use something that we purchased will end as soon as this crypto market crashes because there will be no profit anymore and then gpu prices will crash very hard. If intel dont release these gpus now then they will be going for a very bad start.
It's still not as efficient as using a card with only the most profitable algorithm, Ethereum. As they say, something is better than nothing.

It robs you of the option of mining yourself, it provides less function for the price....
and Nvidia is making dedicated mining cards which are build on / by the same fabs that make all the other stuff so they also take their chunk of the pie.
and those dedicated mining cards will be e-waste....

but ermm you believe whatever you want to I guess.

so, this new intel vga add on, will be very good too for Cryptocurrency Mining, just like all nvidia rtx ampere non LHR and radeon rx 6000 ??

Well, you have to keep in mind that there's a lot of people who don't need the mining function at all, because they don't care or because electricity is too expensive in their country, for those folks limiting the mining function merely improves their chance of getting a graphic card. You're right on e-waste, but honestly if we're really caring about the environment we should ban cryptocurrencies altogether, at least in countries where a significant amount of electricity comes from fossil sources.

i couldn't care less about mining, and this way i got a card i would never get at reasonable prices

Hi,
Yeah this was as obvious as the nose on your face intel would pimp to miners lol
Why not amd did to but amd sux at mining from what I've read and it's obvious to from amd availability in stores they just aren't selling.

Yeah they believe anything the fake media throws at them, they really believe we are going through a shortage here, funny the chinese did not stop working like the whole world did and yet they want to justify this made up news --> "electronics shortage". All chinese manipulation and the fake paid media helping the chinese spreading the bs. Anyway, Intel is evil too, dont expect intel coming to save you trolls, they are as greedy if not more than nvidia. The chinese during the last 20 years have been hoarding these rate metals, now they came with the term "shortage" in order to charge 20x what they paid and sheeps believe it eheh, there is no shortage, there is market manipulation and yes they can do that.

that's some xenophobic anti chinese rant right there
