since it only had 4 cores i was asking but i think that's still good enough

Good performance per core is still more important in games and 4 cores are plenty.

indeed what they said.

(plus what i say ... i use one and i play BF4 all in ultra Crysis 3 all in ultra i ran Far Cry 4 for a test run all in ultra )

also in the games you state you will be more limited by the GPU than the CPU but a 4690K is like a 4790K without HT so except in very cpu intensive games you'l be fine (RTS/MMO/and some multithread optimized games but even in that case they are not many) i play also many mmo's without a hick so yep a 4690K/4670K is plenty and the cost saved over a 4790K is not negligible (i run mine @ 4.6)

i couldn't upgrade my hp so i'm just going to do a new build what gpu whould be run good with that cpu?

I'm running on a 4690k. All my game run fine max with no issues. as gpu a 970 will do just fine a 980 is u have the budget to get it.

@ 1080p or even 1440p most will suggest a GTX 970 or a amd R9 290

4690k will be viable cpu for a good 5 years. even more if you want to stretch it.

a 2nd hand non mining 290 (non ref model unless you plan to go custom water like i do) could be a golden deal, not much beaten by a 970 in real situation and quite a bunch cheaper (even retail brand new model are cheaper actually)

altho for 1440p indeed (well skyrim full moded would ... eventually bring a 970 down but not a 290 ... CF: memory drama issue of the 970)
for 1080p a 960 or a R9 270/270X/285/280/280X could be also a viable option

but i do recommend to go with the most powerful single board GPU your budget allow

Heck yeah. For gaming its maybe a couple FPS slower than an I7 4790k at worst. Use the $100 saved for a better GPU.
