Intel's next six-core desktop processor, the Core i7 970, has started to surface on online stores, with UK-based Digital Fusion listing it for an uncomfortable £ 600.44 excluding applicable tax. The listing confirms the processor's clock speed to be 3.20 GHz, while it is known to be based on the 32 nm Gulftown die. The processor comes in the LGA1366 package, and should be compatible with all LGA1366 motherboards, with some requiring BIOS updates.

Way too expensive.:wtf:

I cant even find this on Intel's site :(

Whats the multiplier at on this?

3200MHz/133bclck = multiplier of 24. It looks nice, but it's almost the same price as the extreme version!

Almost the price, but it will push down the price of everything below it. All the 960's, 950's, 940's, and below will start to drop in price and even lower the demand on the 980X; which in turn will lower the price. :)

More hexcore processors please.

Amen to that. I'm already starting to get excited for my next CPU, even though it's still at least a year and change away from now... Keep 'em coming Intel and AMD!

Ya.....When I win the lottery I'll go intel. Intel's prices are the exact reason I'm an AMD fanboy.

From the interwebz ...

New Intel processors, Summer 2010:

Processor model Suggested retail price per 1,000
July
Core i7-970 $885 <-- no wonder these are so expensive :/
Core i5-760 $205
Core i5-870S $351
August
Pentium E5700 $75
Core i3-560 $138
Pentium E6800 $86
Celeron E3500 $53

Intel CPU price cuts, Summer 2010:

Processor model /Old retail price per 1,000 /New retail price per 1,000
July
Core i3-540 $133 $117
Pentium E6600 $84 $75
Pentium E5500 $75 $64
August
Core i7-950 $562 $294 <-- Nice price drop
October
Core i3-550 $138 $117
Pentium E6700 $86 $75
Pentium E5700 $75 $64
Celeron E3400 $53 $42

and here is finally coming around core worth buying. 100% sure my next core in box hopefully in next 4-6 weeks. About the cost I will not be willing to pay 600 Euros for it. 500 Euros is Max and 540 as introduced possible cost is absolute max, if it ain't that it ain't worth buying. Actually hoping this would go through 350 Euros on 'million dollar digging prices' ;PP

-edit-

hell seems multiplier of this 970 is 24x that's more like better than Q9650 against Q9450. Perhaps the price tag is good after all as is, but where the hell is the "little lower models" then :)

Does this mean the i5 750 is going to be discontinued?

HexaCore i7 non XE for under US$ 600.00 seems reasonable to me, will this processor feature any new technology unavailable in other models?

edit: tought it was a 4 core cpu.

price is still too high

I'm in the same boat. I feel like my next CPU will be hexed.

OMG its only $100 cheaper then the 980X? Thats BS it should be around $600. If you can afford $900 you might as well spend another $100 for the unlocked multiplier.

So your taking an Intel processor, that AMD has nothing to compete with it performance wise, and saying it is overpriced so all Intel processors are overpriced? Poor logic. When there is no competition, things will be overpriced. However, when you look at areas where the two do compete, Intel is not overpriced.
